Title: Iraq Movie Night - Candy
Post by: Andrew on November 05, 2004, 05:44:54 AM
Well gents, we did manage to again assemble around our little data projector (checked out from training), with our white sheet, and the Marines said, "Show us a really bad movie."  This is because someone would say, "Such and such film was the worst movie I ever saw."  I would usually inform them that, while it may have been bad, they need to watch more movies.

I brought my DVD of "Candy," so that I could work on a review out here.  Of course, I also brought along "The Trial of Billy Jack."  Not being in the mood to suffer for three hours, I chose "Candy."

One other Marine managed to sit through the whole thing, though one other only missed a few minutes.  (He had to use the head;  I feel the same way when watching this film.)  All of the others bailed out quickly, several failed to make it past Richard Burton licking the plexiglas.  Interestingly, several cursed directly at the film.

Now they know better...

I always appreciate hearing your adventures in the field, just so I can be sure you haven't caught a bullet.  If "Candy" wards 'em off, so much the better.

I stand by what I wrote before:  "You know that song, "I Want Candy"?  It's a horrible, horrible lie."

Stay frosty, chief.

Andrew,

I recommend the MST3000 version of Cave Dwellers.
This is probably the best/funniest MST they did.

Dude, if that hurt 'em, you should make them sit through "Nukie" some night.  Better yet, if you capture any Al Qaeda operatives, make THEM watch "Nukie."

Bro R,

I don't think that anyone should ever have to suffer through Nukie.  Just thinking about it brings back memories of the little alien bastards with snot running everywhere........

As I said....nobody....should have to sit through it....

Andrew, I loved the "Candy" story.  Keep that away from non-Marines, no one else is tough enough.

Take care and stay safe,

Ed

Good to see you well, Andrew.  Fire off a few Larry Buchanan salvos for good measure.

What ! You mean they never got to Ringo Star playing the MEXICAN gardner or the creepy criminal (played by the guy who wrote Roy Clark's "Yesterday When I Was Young") who seems to only say "rub-a-dub" and climbs walls like a spider.

You nuked there brain cells, Andrew.
Reminds me of the bus trip you told us about. On a civilian rent-a-bus with dvd.
You played "Beware the blob" to a rifle class on the way to the range.
You were so proud they did not shoot the dvd!

Be pround...be very proud!
Semper Fi, carry on!

I seem to recall liking Candy when I saw it on one of the pay channels many years ago. :)

One I couldn't get through recently was the gil on the motorcycle starring marriane faithful.  I got to the part where they are eating fondue at the ski resort and just said quit

also glad to hear you are well and getting some "entertainment." it's been said,  but i'll throw in that your updates always remind me to keep the troops and their families at home in my thoughts and prayers...

was it a nightmare???...i think THE DEVIL'S RAIN was on basic cable over halloween....perhaps that is what drove TRAVOLTA to scientology...at least you missed that...
