Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert, and 'The Bruce' Campbell are all involved as producers.
Sam will not be directing.
Here's the scoop: Rewake the Dead (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news04/041118d.php)
Of all people, I would have NEVER thought that Raimi would have his film remade.
Especially without him directing! This is awful!
Part of what I really like about that movie is its originality for its time but the main thing is the story behind how it was made. Remaking it with higher budgets and modern effects...it just shouldn't happen.
Ya know, if Hollywood needs some original ideas for movies, they can call me (and I'm sure most people on this board). These remakes of everything need to stop.
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
f**k! These things are popping up like weeds! Give me a phone call if you need an idea for a movie like this one!: All the people that can't come up with origial s**t decide to shoot them selves in the head, for the whole movie they think about how they once had pretty good ideas then just fell in formula moviemaking with remakes , the climax is where about 200 people shoot themselves in the head and it turns out *GASP* everyone in Hollywood dies! Then us people with creativty move in and make good origianl movies. That's my idea hollywood, stick your remakes up you ass and die!!!
Why the hell are'nt they making Evil Dead 4!! The original director is still around, Bruce is still around, what the hell?! I hope it doesnt suck as bad as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. Someone should be shot for that one. Except Lee Ermy, he's a badass. I say revive the franchize with a sequel, or let it die with dignity.
If this is true, and not just a rumor from a misunderstood quote, I very seriously propose to you that we all boycott it. No good can come of this. I, for one, know there's no way in hell I'm putting up with this s**t anymore.
The Dawn of the Dead remake at least had some basis for existing, but this...ugh.
Why? Yeah it was a cool flick, #2 on my list of favorites behind Night of the Living Dead, but why a remake? I suppose we'll actually get to see what comes crashing through the cabin after Ash this time around, but who really wants to?
Hmmmm, imagination versus CGI--you tell me.
I think they'll have to add quite a bit to it. I rewatched the first film a couple of months ago and couldn't believe how crude the effects were. It looked more like a student film.
Bruce is probably too old to be acceptable as a lead for the average horror fan. You have to remember that it has to appeal to today's horror fans, and horror films have almost always had young actors.
I'm not really bugged by it...never really cared for the Evil Dead series, and they've already remade my favorite horror films anyway.
Do these people know that there are books out there that have not been made into movies yet, even once? Fritz Leiber's "You're All Alone" would work great, they could even market it as a Matrix rip-off if they wanted.

Oh, here's what he probably have to look foreward to:
CG gore and zombies jumping around!
Hey y'all long time no see.
For a start blkrider wash your mouth out with soap. Bruce the Campbell too old! Bruce is the man, ain't you seen bubba ho tep yet? As for remakes it's been done already, remember evil dead 2. So now it'll be a remake of a remake of a remake or somethin like that. Anyway have faith in Sam Raimi, I am sure if it is s**t he Bruce and Robert will do away with the director by raising the dead, sending them after the guy and and use this as a way of justifying cutting his head off with a chain saw, like any sane person.
Yeah I agree. Bruce Cambell isnt really old. I think he's only in his 40's. I dont really see any reason Ash could'nt be older anyway. I just hope they dont try to replace him with some big name girl faced candyass hollywood actor like Ben Affleck or something. Man that would suck.
>I just hope they dont try to replace him with some big name girl faced candyass
>hollywood actor like Ben Affleck or something.
More likely Freddy Prinze Jr. BLECH!
By the way, Evil Dead II was NOT a remake. You see Raimi and co couldn't get the original footage from the first movie so they just reshot scenes and didn't bother putting in Scott, Cherly and third girl with new footage of Bruce and Linda. I know it does kinda feel like a remake but it's not.
I hope they don't do it at all!! Off topic - were Scooby Doo cast (could they have mucked up Scooby any more with CGI; esp the eyes. they go vertical, NOT horizontal) sooo wrong except usual psycho Lillard as Shaggy - never seen the movies, but he has Shaggy down pat
Did I say Evil Dead II was a remake somewhere? I think it spoofs the 1st movie quite a bit, but its not an out and out remake.
Sorry I meant to post that to "Zilla" who said:
What I said was meant for him.
