SLIPSTREAM (1989) - Post apocalyptic film co-starring Mark Hamill as a bad guy bounty hunter. Hamill kinda looks like Kiefer Southerland in this one and there isn't much to his role other than chasing a renegade bounty hunter who stole Hamills fugitive android. The android starts to have feelings towards the end. The film is kinda like a poor version of three different films. MAD MAX, BLADE RUNNER, and WATERWORLD. The only difference is they are flying in the air in flimsy small airplanes. The location of the film and the over dramatic music were the best parts of this film. I think the film was shot in the Ihlara Valley in Turkey where their is a underground city. I read the back of the cover and it said a world racked by devastating winds which is what caught my interest in the film, but I think they meant the winds created the post apocalyptic world of the film. The winds must have died down for filming. Overall a bad, but memorable film.

Early Christians constructed their rock houses and temples in the Ihlara Valley by carving underground cities in the stone. Intresting history and location worth a visit.

The other bounty hunter is none other than Bill Paxton (ALIENS, TWISTER, et al). I saw this years ago when I'd pick up ANYthing post-apocalyptic. It was pretty bad. The part that made me laugh out loud was when the android is getting all romantic towards the end and roars like a lion! ROTFLMAO!!!
Yea, he roars from behind some plants as if in the jungle. : )
I watched this a long time ago, when like Gerry I would rent just about anything action or the least bit scifi oriented.
The most memorable part of the movie was the scenery, I thought the city carved into the mountains was cool looking.
You didn't mention that F. Murray Abraham also makes an appearance in this turkey.
I saw this in an almost empty cinema back in 1989.
I still remember reading the press ads that stated "From the producer of Star Wars & the director of Tron comes..."
Whoa what a stinker!!! Though i agree the locations looked impressive.
Heh, picked this one up on DVD today for 1.00 and the local dollar store.
Watched part of it on a portable DVD player which my wife gave to me early for Christmas. Great sound on the DVD, awful film quality and from what I can tell a awful film to boot.
Mark Hamil can't do Clint Eastwood too well. To tell the truth, all I remember is the Android, Hamil with white hair (made him look sorta menacing as I recall), F. Murray
Abraham, and the Turkish underground city. I didn't even remember Bill Paxton being in it until I read a review.

Never seen it, but I did hitchhike through the area in '79 -- really bizarro cave-dwelling kind of ouvre. There are other places like it along the old Great Silk Road along the northern Turkish border. I was taking meerschaum into Iran to trade for Masadi turquoise -- a hippie (moi) could make a pretty decent living doing that sort of crap back then --
