Title: Gladiator Double Feature
Post by: Scott on December 19, 2004, 11:53:13 PM
REBEL GLADIATORS (1963) - Dan Vadis stars in this very good Italian sword and sandal film. It's about a barbarian strongman who is trained as a Gladiator after a Emperor is embarrassed by him during a military campaign. The  evil Emperor Commodus likes to engage in gladiator battles himself and is played well by Sergio Cianis . Dan Vadis character plays the hero who defeats the Emperor.

THE INVINCIBLE GLADIATOR (1963) - This is one of the better Italian gladiator film. Richard Harrison stars as Rezius who wins his freedom in the arena. He then goes into the mountains to lead Roman soldiers to squash a band of rebels. The leader of the rebels turns out to be the kings sister who is brought back and imprisonned. Rezius doesn't like what he sees and the rebels and gladiators break out and kill the bad king. Well done film. If you get the chance check it out.

Both of these films were exceptional and the DVD from Diamond Entertainment is ok, but the color is fading. These films should be and need to be remastered. I enjoyed both of them.
