Title: Snowbound Horror
Post by: Menard on December 22, 2004, 03:42:42 PM
As the weather is presently threatening sleet, freezing rain and snow today, this had me thinking about horror movies that take place in a snow covered environment (okay, now where did I misplace that life of mine). Two movies that came to mind are 'The Boogens' and 'My Bloody Valentine'. Does anybody have any memorable or favorite 'snowy' horror flicks?

Bob

Snowbeast, a wonderful piece of 70s made-for-TV crap with the title beast threatening a ski resort and the local winter festival. The hero happened to be a former biathlon champion who can ski and shoot. What are the odds?

This thing was so cheap, they used the same two snowmobiles throughout the movie. Arctic Cat has a huge share of the market in this town. As wrecked snowmobiles, they were just kind of gently tipped over.

"The Thing" and "The Shining" come to mind but I really can't think of any cheesy B-flicks that were shot in the snow.

Well, this one isn't really snowbound, but they are somewhat isolated in the film MAN BEAST (1956).  The first sigting of the Yeti is fun.

I don't recall My Bloody Valentine having all that much snow.

The Crawling Eye, AKA The The Trollenberg Terror. Takes place high on a snow covered mountain.

Along a similar vein, THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN (1957) is another of my all-time favorites.  Peter Cushing and Forrest Tucker (also of THE CRAWLING EYE) and possibly the best depiction of the Abominables ever (IMO).

JACK FROST and JACK FROST 2 about the serial killer snowman are a couple more.

Yea both RAVENOUS and THE CRAWLING EYE are great.

THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN (1957) is also an ok film worth a viewing.

There was Dreamcatcher. Miserable movie, memorable only in that it wasn't entertaining in any way, but...well, there was snow.
