Title: Elektra
Post by: BeyondTheGrave on January 14, 2005, 04:36:48 PM
I know "Why the hell did you see this movie". The reason is Ive been a fan of Elektra since Frank Miller introduced her in Daredevil so I had to see it. Well I am here to report its bad. Really bad. This is Marvels answer to DC Catwoman so that should say it all. The first 5 mintues were really good for comic fans(me)because the scences was ripped from couple recent issues of Elektra comic (which was canned a couple of months ago). besides that just stay away from it. Oh and other thing I am not one of those comic fans that go crazy when something is changed from the comic to the movie. I understand you have to please everyone but this movie is just bad.

Fans are always the saddest story when it comes to movie flops, or even just famous dissappointments.  Was it at least better than Daredevil? Can't we have at least some small miracles?

Ben Affleck--Daredevil was doomed from the start.  I hate that guy.

It should be better than Daredevil. Ben Affleck is not in it.

I just got back from seeing this and I have to agree with rich on this one.
The fight scenes were decent but the storyline......blech!

Be prepared for about 50 flashbacks to Elektra's childhood.

Ebert said in his review that the fight scenes were shot as if they were made for people with ADD and he's right.

He says, "The movie's fight scenes suffer from another condition, attention deficit disorder. None of their shots are more than a few seconds long, saving the actors from doing much in the way of stunts and the director from having to worry overmuch about choreography. There's one showdown between Elektra and the head killer of The Hand that involves a lot of white sheets, but all they do is flap around; we're expecting maybe an elegant Zhang Yimou sequence, and it's more like they're fighting with the laundry."

If you thought the fight scenes in Daredevil had too many cuts, Elektra will certainly disappoint.  Expect to see about 10 seperate cuts in a 5 second clip.
That's no joke.

Also, the film is visually very dark.  Many scenes will have you straining your eyes to take everything in.

And finally, I think Garner was a poor choice to play Elektra.
I like her as an actress but she just has that 'too nice & sweet look' to effectively play this character.
In the comics, Elektra was a vicious killer but Garner only pulls that off so-so.

Still, despite these shortcomings I recommend it for a one time viewing.
It wasn't THAT bad.

I agreed Garner was very bad choices in both movies she has no body to her. The Elektra in the comics has curves and sexy not stick thin and plain.
