William Shatner (star of the much loved series Barbary Coast) has won a Golden Globe to go with his Emmy for his potrayal of living legend Denny Crane on ABC's Boston Legal.
David E. Kelley is a genius of casting. Who would have known that Shatner and James Spader would make such a great comedy team?
My favorite episode so far is the one where Shatner shoots the guy holding Spader hostage with the little survival .22 rifle he keeps in his desk.
"I was a Marine, trained as a sniper, or was that a pilot?"
Oddly enough, I did not intend to watch BOSTON LEGAL, as I find TV law series to be rather irritating. One night BOSTON LEGAL was on and I just left the channel there. Now I have become a fan of the series (yarrgh). I think Shatner and Spader are quite a team on the show and absolutely hilarious. Maybe it is make-up, but Shatner looks better than he has over the past several years. One of my favorite funny moments between the two is when Alan plants a butcher knife and a picture of Denny with Saddam in Denny's briefcase in order to delay him from a trial.
Ain't it annoying, after having made a statement to someone, the temptation just to blurt out, "Denny Crane" ( :
Good to hear-- Almost makes up for his being snubbed in the Grammy nominations (and I'm not even being facetious-- the album's damn good!)
I do not care for cutesy signoffs --
I was driven to start using a cutesy signoff because of the genius of this man, and the genius of this man's performances . . .
Not even Arrested Development can make me spew laughing like Crane can . . .
My favorite moments for the character, paradoxically, are the ones where he can't remember what he's doing & shows genuine moments of drifting into Alzheimer's. Comedy is contrast & the flip side of Tragedy on the same coin. This part is doing that so nicely now -- Gawd but I hope they don't foook it oooop . . .
peter johnson/denny crane
I'm a HUGE fan of anything Shatner, and therefore a fan of Boston Legal. I am now a Spader fan as well- it's a genius combination!!!
Back to Shatner...
I love how he just walks around saying "Denny Crane" for no reason... just at random times. I one episode they said they needed him at a hearing- the sole purpose of his attendance was to have him say those two words that inspire shock and awe... DENNY CRANE.
It's really funny now with Candice Bergen too- how she goes up & whispers "Denny Crane" in his ear & he just gasps... then lusts after her.
Genius.
I love when they had Denny go to sit in on the lawsuit against the government about what happening in Sudan. When they walk out the press is shoving microphones at them and Denny is saying "Denny Crane, cuckoo for cocoa puffs." and the second time it was "Denny Crane, Trix are for kids."
I have heard part of his album and saw him on Leno performing with Joe Jackson. In fact I have a downloaded video of it. Even Rolling Stone gave it raves.
What day and time is BOSTON LEGAL showing? I'm a big fan of anything William Shatner does. This sounds like a gem of a show from your descriptions.
It airs at 10:00 Eastern 9:00 Central on ABC.
Thanks. What day does it air?
That would be Sunday.
You know, like Scott, I have never seen this show. I can't believe it. I'm missing something with Shatner!?!?!?
Will definetly mark this one down.
