Title: Uwe Boll, today's Ed Wood?
Post by: dudeman on January 29, 2005, 08:39:45 PM
Is he? This Uwe Boll guy is dead serious when he sets out to do a movie like House of the Dead.

No, after viewing ALONE IN THE DARK it is clear that comparing him to Ed Wood is not  accurate. Uwe Boll is the MTV version of Bruno Mattei.

I think he's Ed Wood Alright. Just Ed Wood witha more wild imagination and less talent.

Contrary to popular belief Ed DID have some talent as a film maker, but not much.He coudl at least make stuff entertaining and fun to watch, something boll is pretty much incapable of.
I cant wait to see the 2005 razzies, Boll has to win!

Uwe Boll is a total joke, and his movies are beyond miserable, but I don't think he'll live on after death like Ed Wood has... but I suppose only time will tell. It's sometimes hard to recognize a legend while they're still breathing.

He's doing all this video game stuff, which gives him an excuse for sucking, instead of passionatly flailing around with his own passionate, excentric vision, like Ed did.

Usually I don't care what guy directs this or that but Uwe Boll just sticks in my mind. I think thats what he goes for, makeing his movies so unenjoyable that you will remember him. Look were writeing about him right now. I don't like him because I am a video game fan and he ruins them. Look out for the upcoming Bloodrayne.

I have yet to see one of his movies.  But it's been a long time since I've heard people get so ticked off over the badness of a film the way they did about House of the Dead.

I haven't seen any of this guys pictures yet either, but every classic bad director (i.e: Wood, Milligan, Adamson, Buchanan) have trademarks that make their movies.

Is it bad special effects, stupid dialog and bad acting? (Ed Wood)
Is it bad camera work, lightening, goofy costumes, oddly dipraved plot points and long, bitter tirades by characters? (Andy Milligan)
Is it goofy special effects, make up, confusing story and actors too old and sick to be in a movie? (Al Adamson)
Is it plagerizing another movie only using bad special effects and makeup and making it truly boring? (Larry Buchanan)

For some reason after reading this bad press on the guy, I want to see his movies.

I just watched AitD last night, and it got an applause from someone in the back of the theatre. I wanted to kick that guys ass so bad. The movie was horrible. At least House of the Dead was laugh per-minute fun, this wasn't even that. It was a complete turkey that played out like a Scifi original.

Well, read an interesting little quote on IMDb's Alone in the Dark board.

"I used to call Uwe Boll the new Ed Wood, but then I realised I was insulting Ed Wood."

Heh, heh, heh... cracked me up when I read it.

I was expecting that quote to pop up sooner or later.

Suggesting that Uwe Boll could be the next Ed Wood is actually raising his level of competence. Where Ed Wood made enjoyable movies with almost no budget and became legendary; Uwe Boll has apparently made unenjoyable movies with a budget. I don't believe that Uwe Boll is in the same category as Ed Wood. It is ironic that had Ed Wood had budgets with which to work, he probably could have made some good films and nobody would remember him today.

Is he connected to Bloodrayne? I have never played the game, but am interested in the movie, since Nazis and vampires seem to be a nice combination.

The Boll Weevil itself IS making a Bloodrayne movie. So far, I can tell two thins about it:

1- Kristanna Loken, who played the T-X in T-3, is playing Bloodrayne, and

2- It'll be good if that piece of f**kING s**t doesn't make it. It's gonna be bad.
