The remake of Walking Tall was ruined by putting a Hispanic playing Buford Pusser! Im not trying to be racist or a wise ass, But after all the real Character was a Southern redneck! It would be like having a remake of a movie about Malcolm X and having Johnny Depp play the lead!
The remake of WALKING TALL was just plain BAD. I bought the DVD and after the first 30 minutes, I thought it wasn't too bad. But it quickly went downhill and ended up being a pointless remake. Give me Joe Don Baker any day!

Uh, The Rock is half black/half Samoan.
I still like the original better, but the remake wasn't too bad. I found it entertaining for it's extremely short run time. And, I felt the rock did a good job as the lead. I've actually not been very disappointed with many of his films. He's actually made out pretty well in the film industry compared to other wrestler turned actors:
*cough* Suburban Commando, Mr. Nanny *cough*
Suburban Commando is so bad that it's fun though
Walking Tall was filled with pointless, cartoon violence...an entertaining, mindless film. The Rock is a decent actor and usually plays over-the-top characters but as much as I dislike wrestling, I find his movies fun to watch.
"Uh, The Rock is half black/half Samoan" Well, that reinforces Matt's point eh?

Well, I didnt research his race! Anyway my point still stands! He was miscast for this part!

In this corner, we have the classic John Carpenter tale, "They Live"
In this corner we have..."Abraxas"
Dude Skaboi! Don't diss Mr. Nanny! That movie's kick ass awesome! Any movie with a villain that has a metal thing on top of his head is kick ass!
I enjoyed this movie. The fights were aggressive and the acting was good. And you can't accuse the movie for overstaying its welcome
I actually thought his performance was better than the rest of the cast in Scorpion King. Well, okay, that's about as small as compliments get, but...
I liked the Rock, but hated the remake and changing the character's name from Buford Pusser(even though I read the Rock is the one who wanted the name changed). Seemed like they could have gotten some comic material out of him roughing up people who poked fun of his name (call it the "Boy Named Sue" Effect) which would have fit considering the light tone of the film anyway. Plus the ending where he destroyed the crooked casino business, ruining the town's economy and putting lots of folks out of work was weak. But luckily the lumber mill decided to reopen since we see the signs of renewed industry in the background as the credits rolled, it seemed too pat and tacked on avoid making the Rock a short-sighted creep in the film.
I either recommend the original to people who haven't seen it or tell them to find a much better film starring the Rock - "The Rundown".
