Title: Space Raiders
Post by: Alan Smithee on March 21, 2005, 12:49:05 AM
Another Star Wars knock-off that reused effects from Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars". Space Raiders is pretty low budget. I saw this on HBO back in the mid-80s and tought it stunk then, and it's no better now. I haven't seen this movie in a few years, and I'm *almost* tempted to rent it (the movie isn't quite as scare as some other obscure 1980's  sci-fi, grade Z junk.

I remember it a dumb ripoff, but mostly harmless and forgettable. Might be worth a look as part of a SW knock-off marathon or mini-festival. Hell, at this point you could have a marathon of all the films that reused that BBTS footage.

I actually paid good money to see this, when it was first released to theaters. I don't remember much of it, except for the opening minutes, but I don't remember it being any worst then then most of those  grade Z films of that time. And it was better then some of them,  as I can remember.

I actually really liked this movie.
Lots of aliens, a stop-motion bug( ooo!), really good music, nice ending, good acting--I was happy.
Sure it was cheap but it was one of the better star wars rip-offs I've seen.
