Title: Basket Case
Post by: Kory on March 23, 2005, 05:08:13 AM
IMDB gives this movie 5.7 out of 10 stars... a friend of mine said it's the worst move EVER (not believing about Manos or Plan 9).  Here's the jist of it (per IMDB):

A young man carrying a big basket, containing his deformed Siamese brother is seeking revenge on the doctors who separated them.

I have not had the pleasure of viewing this (yet...).  To those of you who have- what do you think?

"Basket Case" is somewhat between the categories of good or bad.
There are reasons for trash-fans as well as for "normal" viewers to like it.

I saw it only one time but I remember that it had average or even good special effects.
The trash-factor in this movie is the grotesque plot and the even more grotesque appearance of the ugly siamese brother.

After separation, the totally deformed siamese brother is hidden in a basket and his normal brother cares about him.

I am not sure if it´s for jealousy or whatever but at some point in the movie the freak starts to attack people.

Not the best movie in the world but one of my favorite lower budget horror movies. I have a special fondness for it because it was one of the first horror movies I rented when we got our first VCR.  Wence is correct about the plot but I will also say that the stop-go motion of the freak makes it somewhat amusing too. We won't even bother to get into the acting.
I would say it's worth seeing, however, stay away from the second one.

I´ve seen the second one, too but I forgot what´s going on in it ...
is it so bad?

OK, if you've seen it and you forgot what's going on in it, what does that tell you? Your mind shut out the horror of you having seen it...that's how bad it was. Higher budget than the first one and more ridiculous comedy. If you saw the first one, you will recall how it ended yet in the second one, the brother and the freak somehow managed to survive...it's all downhill from there.

Fun little grimy horror flick, with some nice black humor. Only saw it once-- I wouldn't mind seeing it again. Also, significant as the first movie by Something Weird archivist Frank Henenlotter.

I've seen this once and I had a really good time watching it. It came armed with plenty of gore and a good monster movie idea. Some good job scenes are also with it and if I remember correctly there was some nudity. When we first see the monster in full light  is the scene that made me job out of my seat (and I was like 16, way use to horror movies by then) I want to see it again but alas it's missing at Blockbuster (I.E. they took it away to make room for NEW stuff ) There's a DVD out but I'm saving money for other stuff at the moment.
