Title: Best Live Action King of the Hill Cast?
Post by: Ash on April 09, 2005, 04:54:44 PM
The other day a buddy & I were trying to think of an actor who could best play Hank Hill if a live action movie version of King of the Hill were ever made.

Neither of us could think of any male actor who could accurately pull it off.

The rest of the cast wouldn't be as tough to cast.

Any ideas as to who you think would play Hank Hill the best?
What about the rest of the cast?

No idea who could play Hank but I think Tom Root could actually play the role of his character Bill. Nicholas cage looks the part of Dale, but i doubt he could pull it off right.

I think if Randy Quaid didn't fall into the trap of playing Cousin Eddie from Vacation again (as he has done in a number of later movies such as Independence Day and Not another Teen Movie), he could do a good job.  He has made movies where he underplayed, rather than cartoonishly overplayed, and he's been pretty good.  I can see him effectively delivering those Hank lines where propane gas is equated with one's right to free speech.

Also - Think Brad Pitt from Snatch in the role of Boomhauer.  It could work, Boom's supposed to be something of a pretty boy.

Mike Judge maybe.... if you gave him back some hair..... but you've already got the voice down right there.

Still, I don't think King of the Hill should ever make it to a big screen. It's honestly hard enough to watch whenever it comes on.

Brad Pitt as Boomhauer is I great idea. I never would have thought of that, but switch the accent of Mick the Pikey to Texan, and there's Boomhauer.

Quaid would have made a perfect Hank Hill ten or fifteen years ago, but he might be too old now. Can't think of who would be right for the part today.

For some reason, Steve Buscemi as Dale Gribble came to mind. Can't think why (probably just because another thread has me thinking of Tarantino films), but it might be funny. Scrawny, kind of creepy, a bit crazy. He could do it.

Cotton Hill might be a tough one, given his unusual war injury. Might need some special effects for that. Carroll O'Connor would have been an interesting Cotton when he was alive. Hard to think of which crusty old guys are still around.

Me!

No, seriously, my wife always insists that I am a dead ringer for Hank - whom I think is a splendid role model, actually - in both appearance and spoken word.

I'd have to work at the Texas accent (North of England via South of England not quite the same), but I like the guy so much I'd try really really hard!

Didn't Brad Pitt do the voice of Boomhauer's brother in one episode?  He probably already has the mannerisms down pat.

How about Ed O'Neill for Hank?

Who would play Bobby?
