Yes, skateboarding movies! 'Craze-movies' are always fun, think of breakdancing movies. And who can forget that amazing Australian classic starring a young Nicole Kidman, 'BMX Bandits'? But how many skateboarding movies did they make in the wake of the 80's skateboarding craze?
All I remember is the Christian Slater movie, 'Gleaming the Cube' and one other weird skateboarding movie that involved a guy wearing lots of earrings. Or was that the same movie???
C'mon folks! Who knows 'em, who likes 'em, who hates 'em? And what movies were there, anyway?
I always hated the 'skater exploitation' flicks and held real videos like the powell-peralta stuff in high regard. But they were fun to joke at. It's funny, but I can remember more rollerblade flicks like Solarbabies (reviewed on this site) than skate flicks. I only saw a preview but what was the movie about the kid who is reincarnated has a talking skateboard?
Hey, it looks like a perfect occasion to promote my own website... I recommend you David Winter's Thrashin' (1986), whose French title is "Skate Gang". That guy was also involved in Roller Boogie (1979), a nice reference too (and many other cheesy flicks). Though the review is written in French, you can have a look to the nice pictures from this 100% Californian movie... Feat. Red Hot Chili Peppers (in 1986, yes).

I rented thrashin about a thousand times. there is a hill near my house called the LA death massacre. This was before there were tons and tons of skate videos with real skateboarding in them. I gotta see this again. This was sort of in a tryptech (Sp?) with Rad! (BMX) and North Shore(surfing).
and don't forget skateboard the movie "skate ouuuuuut!"
I have this movie called Shredder Orpheus (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246231/), that I haven't watched but I have high hopes for. The Orpheus myth retold as a skate movie? I am there.
I thought Gleaming the Cube was cool when I was a kid.
Also, there is not one, but two Skateboard Kid movies.
A skateboarding flic that was on a loop on TNT for a while was Airborne (1993). It had Seth Green and Jack Black in it and it was just about as goofy as you can get.
