Yes, kiddies they are making the Sid and Marty Krofft series into a movie. The same guy that directed Anchorman with Ferrell is doing it.
Details here (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?category=0&id=30865).
Now if they could only get someone to remake HR Pufnstuf.
So, is it going to be a straight adaptation, or a comedy? I can't tell.
Sounds great. Will Ferrell will make a great Chacka.
It's going to be a comedy, with Sid and Marty Krofft as creative consultants. If I'm not mistaken, Ferrell will be the only one stuck in the Land Of The Lost.
Interesting tidbit, his name in Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back was Marshall Willenholly. I think that fans of the show can figure that one out.
That idea has potential, certainly more original than making it into an effects-laden action flick. And I did find Anchorman to be a pleasant surprise. Could be a good movie.
So at this point I guess the heads of the major studios have gotten together with a Pop Culture Almanac and are just remaking everything page by page that's more than 20 years old?
"Page 247... Land of the Lost... TV show... Hmm... Better not try to play this one straight. Has Farrel wrapped on Anchorman yet? He has? Okay, Dreamworks, why don't you field this one."
If this remake wants me to come, they better dust off the same old Sleestack costumes. I don't want any fancy new-style Sleestacks. Also, look for Rob Snyder as one of the little monkies.
I used to think Clint Howard played Chaka in the old tv series.
Check it out on one of my pages (at the bottom). The resemblance is uncanny!
CHAKA (http://www.geocities.com/smvgrey/deadringers.html)
That Chaka comparison is great. I never thought about it that way until I saw your page...uncanny.
I hope they go with a weird, Phillip Jose Farmeresque dimention made and controlled by mysterious superbeings instead of just going back to the Mesozoic era.
Ugh, remember watching this when I was a kid. I'll gladly pass.
Just the idea of making a movie version sounds bad....
They must keep the same theme song, too. No Will Smith drum machine remakes.
! I just had a brilliant idea. They could put the Osbornes on a raft, doing a reality show... and then the greatest earthquake ever known happens...
They should do a Lidsville movie too.
Oh God! Lidsville! Yet another psychotic show that left untold scars on impressionable young minds.
