Post by: Ellie on April 27, 2005, 07:26:49 PM
I just watched this movie about  World War 2 England and it was listed as a comedy. I have seen it before. I just love this movie. It made  me hungry for jam in a can..german jam..yummm. It was made in 1987.

We have a VHS copy at home that I've never gotten around to watching. I do remember when it was released in 1987 though.

Absolutely one of the best films about WW2 Homefront Britain ever made!!
My mother lived through it all as a teenager, and I had ample opportunity to speak with her parents & neighbors about it all when I went over first in '73 & later visits.  Mom's still alive, and this film gets so much of the TONE of the times exactly right.
I love when the German Dornier bomber drops a bomb in the river & the kids almost sink the boat with all the fish they bring home to their dementia-ridden Grandfather.  And how the Grandfather rips the schoolmaster a new one just before the Incendiary bomb blows out the classrooms.
And the bizarre games the kids play in the rubble.
Well, all of it really . . . just a thoroughly enjoyable film.
