The movie starts by showing someone messing with a harness on a helicopter. The next morning we see a stuntman getting killed because said harness doesn't work.
The dead stuntman's brother (Robert Forster) who is also a stuntman shows up to find out how he died. As they continue with the picture two more stunt guys buy the farm. Forster must find out what;s going on and who is killing the stuntmen.
Is it the producer whose wife has a thing for sleeping with stuntmen, the new kid, or the seemingly incompetent FX guy who won an award for a movie that two stuntmen died making?
This is nice little mystery picture and pretty typical middle 70's fare. I like Robert Forster and wondered why he didn't have a better career. He always had that world weary look about him. He would've made a good Mike Hammer type detective. In fact he and Richard Jaeckel had a short-lived detective series in 1972 called Banyon. It only lasted 15 episodes.
I also like Joanna Cassidy (how'd you guess), only her clothes were always on. She does go into a drunken rage and tosses a couple of guys around in the bar. Gotta love a woman that can kick ass..
The biggest problem with this movie was the movie in the movie. They were just out shooting random stunts with no clue as to what the movie was supposed to be about.
This was on my $1 double feature with Evel Knievel.
I have enjoyed STUNTS too. It is a weak mystery, but it does have some good action sequences and moves at a pretty good pace making it an enjoyable film.
Robert Forster of "The Black Hole" fame?
That's the one.
Yes, the same Robert Forster who was in The Black Hole, Alligator, Jackie Brown, Supernova, and numerous other films and TV shows.
