It's a bit old people-ish right now because it's an estate home, but we got it for $67,900, and a little paint and some area rugs will do wonders to update it.  It's in one of Mason City's most upscale neighborhoods, surrounded by big fancy brick homes.  Short of trashing the place, there's no way we won't turn a profit on it when we move elsewhere.

Congrats Brother R. Is this your first home?
The wife and I have been toying with the idea of selling ours and getting a new one.

It sure is a helluva lot better than that cramped dorm room!

You'll have to christen it by throwing a big bash there.
Invite me if you do!

Good looking place, BR.  If you got that for under 70K, I'll have to start considering Iowa.  First home you've owned?  If so, get ready for a radical shift in the way you think about things like birds nesting in drain spouts and the comparative merits of cowslip and seafoam (both of which are some kind of color, I think).

This is indeed the first home.  I graduate from college on Sunday.  I don't imagine most people in my graduating class already have a house and a full-time job lined up.   I was on my way home to look at a different property, and the realtor called up all freaked out that this awesome estate home just went on the market dirt cheap and we better get there NOW! so I turned my car around and went there.  Half an hour later, we were signing the offer, and by 10pm that night it was ours.  Now we're going through all the banking procedures to start the loan rolling.
Cowslip and seafome?  I think not.  We're going to have to repaint both the bedrooms, as they're very old-lady-colored right now.  Phoenix's room will be a dark navy blue, ours will probably be a matte gunmetal gray or some type of dark neutral color.  Some time down the road, I hope to finish part of the basement and turn it into a home theater.

Mucho congrats Brother R!

I agree with what Ed said, if that house were in my area it would be well over 100k.  You really got a steal.  Also, congrats on graduating college.  What did you major in?

Congratulations Brother Ragnarok.  I very much miss the house we had purchased down in GA, including the refinished kitchen that I had done for Katie.  White oak cabinets with raised panel doors, using walnut to create a contrast for the center panels and drawer fronts.  There is something nice about being able to do things exactly as you want them.

That and owning a home is a great thing when you do your taxes each year.
