Title: S.S. Hell Camp (1977)
Post by: Scott on June 08, 2005, 01:23:44 AM
S.S. HELL CAMP (1977) - Don't know what to say. This is one sick Italian film. There are so many torture scenes in this film that you won't be able to recall them all, but I'll try to mention the tamer scenes. Nazi's throw a baby in the air and shoot it with a machine gun then kill the grandmother and another scene a woman is getting her fingernails removed and she says in dubbed english "Your hurting me". The main part of this story is the sadistic female commander who keeps this human beast in a cage. The rest of the film is about the brutality of a small village and the resistance fighters who try to attack the S.S. headquarters in town. With the usual Italian gun action everyone runs out into the open to die with guns blazing. Most the details in this film are not mentionable on the messageboard.

that sounds awesome.  there's   video store here in Boston I used to go to that has all this stuff but I stopped going there because it was just too sketchy even for me.

This sounds like a Nazi version of THE MAN BEHIND THE SUN, which was also full of torture scenes.

"Mark of the Devil" is only infamous torture movie I've seen. The torture scenes did make me uneasy, but the movie did'nt really capture my interest. Maybe someday if I want to see something really "twisted" I'll get into the nazi exploitation stuff. I dont consider myself easily offended, but sometimes the nazi exploitation stuff just seems to cross a line, like the cannibal movies where real animals get slaughtered. Of course, that's the whole point. : )

I've seen MARK OF THE DEVIL and didn't think it was worth banning unless I saw some cut version. The guy I saw in MARK OF THE DEVIL used that long needle on people along with some other torture scenes, but S.S. HELL CAMP is on the level of the Italian cannibal films, but they do much different things. The beast in the cage is too much.

Doesn´t this beast it the women´s hair? Oh, man...

Scott, if you like S.S. Hell Camp - GESTAPO´S LAST ORGY is on the same level.

Haven´t seen any of these films (don´t like that stuff) but a friend told me about them.

Well, I didn't say I "liked" these type films, but I am looking at what has been done in the past with film and how certain genres are able to come up with something that causes someone to be drawn too them or creates a interest for what ever reason real or unreal. A film can be of the same genre, but have a different tone and use of images even if only a slight difference.

Thanks for giving me a title that I've never heard of before in GESTAPO´S LAST ORGY. It's on my list now, but Netflix dosn't carry this one.

I agree with the idea that a film is worthy of study merely because it at one point proved entertaining to some person or group of people. It's like a snashot of culture somewhere in the world and it surely can't be ignored. Bravo to your work, Scott.

I've heard of S.S. Hell Camp before but haven't seen it yet.
Another friend of mine has seen it and labeled it one of the most sadistic films he's ever seen but it's somewhat difficult to find.

I definitely want to check it out sometime.

(where did you get your copy Scott?)

ASHTHECAT Netfix is where I found a copy.

Scottie thanks for the support. I think students of film and filmmakers should see as much as they can. So they can create original material or at least original combinations of things that worked in the past.

All our great recent films borrowed a lot from the older films while adding some new elements. Some films that come to mind are:

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
STAR WARS
CONAN THE BARBARIAN

Even what was shown in S.S. HELL CAMP can be modified to create something effectively acceptable by more general movie goers and even more sophisticated film audiences.
