Title: OT: Boom goes the Dynamite
Post by: Susan on June 11, 2005, 07:31:55 PM
What happened to the OT: Weird sites thread? Anyhow thought this was funny and worth sharing. Heard any sports commentators use the phrase "And boom goes the dynamite"? Well..here's where it all came from....

Oh man. Oh man. Ohh it's so hard to watch. You think he'll smooth himself out after the first 30 seconds of nervousness but no. Oh no. A loss of motor control of the mouth and brain seems to plague this poor guy as the pressure just keeps building inside of him. It's just too much to hear the beginning of one sentence function as the end of the previous and names like Hakim pronounced as Heck-um. The guy has a good voice for sports casting and when he's up he souds good, but when he's down it's waaay down. Just keep him away from improv'ing  and there will be no more booming of dynamite. [chuckling] boom goes the dynamite....

you could tell he was dying, his ears were on FIRE!

About 20 seconds into the highlight pretty much says it all - he mutters to himself "oh man." The long pauses where he tries to gain composure are killer. Especially when he comes back in mid sentence saying something the teleprompter didn't wait around for him to even begin. I can't stop watching this!!!

Oh this poor guy. That is funny but you have to wonder about the station allowing that to continue for 4 minutes without stopping it for "technical difficulties". I died laughing at the end when the 2 anchors were shown trying to keep a straight face and the one says to him something about "thanks for that look into sports." Tears, tears in my eyes.

Well didn't it say it was a student channel, like an oncampus thing? With that in mind it could totally happen! Well at least he got some fame for it and is enjoying it...vs that poor star wars kid

Yeah, it was an on campus news channel but still...to let that kid flounder like that. I wonder if he p**sed someone off and they were getting even with him?

That Star Wars kid is one of the funniest things I have seen on the net. They have done all sorts of things to modify it and make it worse on him. He's been inserted into a Braveheart clip and a 70's cop show. I will say that deep down inside me, I feel that he deserved that for even making that tape. That's the mean side of me.

What´s up with the Star Wars kid?

You haven't seen or heard of the Star Wars kid? Where have you been, Germany?
I'm just kidding Wence. The SWK is some teenager that had made a video of himself at school while pretending to be Darth Maul (I suspect). Supposedly he made it in the AV room while nobody was there and some kids got hold of the tape and digitized it for the net. From what I've read, the parents are suing the families of the kids that did it, saying that he has been institutionalized for being made fun of. Now, I can sympathize with the kid somewhat because as a geek, I too was picked on terribly for a while. The only difference is that I learned to cope and deal with it and eventually overcome it. Simply put: he shouldn't have made a video like this at school if he didn't want to be picked on for it. I also am not completely sure I believe all of it but regardless...I still find it hilarious.
Here's a link if you want to see the videos: Star Wars Kid Videos (http://www.screamingpickle.com/members/StarWarsKid/)

Thanks Odinn7,
that hilarious SW-Kid-Videos were fun to watch.
Poor little boy...
I´m sure he´s going trough hell in school now.

He want´s to imitate DarthMaul. In the last third of the video his face gets an angry, aggressive touch - seems that he imagines how he kicks ass of all the people who ever made fun of him.
Nasty...

Oh, my.  I hadn't seen those Star Wars Kid movies.  That's brutal.  But I laughed.  :)

Is this sort of thing wrong, d'you suppose?  My wife doesn't think this is funny because it puts the kid down.

I, on the other hand, take it in the category as, for example, Tommy and Pamela's sex video.  (ie, if you're foolish enough to videotape yourself doing this stuff, then God help you if you let someone get hold of it).

The key thing with the star wars kid is to watch the original video, I like to follow it with that matrix remix one, there's a few out there but there's on in particular that is hillarious.  For some reason the star wars kid video's are hard to find now, alot of site links are bad

wence - i believe his parents tried to sue or something and he ended up in therapy. There was an online petition to get george lucas to put him in the next star wars film, he never did. I guess it goes to show any harmless video you make can not only be circulated on the net but graphically enhanced by thousands of really creative people with time on their hands and a little darkness in their soul ;-)

Maybe it does put the kid down (ok, face it...it makes him look like an ass) but
as I said before...he was asking for it. Especially to make the video at school.
I can't help it...IT'S DAMN FUNNY.

Oh and...SUSAN[/u]...if you read my earlier post, there is a link there to a site that has all of the SWK videos and they all work...yes, even the Matrix version.

The "boom goes the dymanite" guy is a friend of my brother.  They are both in telecommunications at Ball State in Muncie, Indiana.  Apparently the kid doesn't have much of a sense of humor about the whole incident.  He was asked to go on the Letterman show (Dave is a BSU alum) and declined.  My brother says that he has been laying low and virtually unseen since the incident.

Side note....apparently someone in California has trade marked the phrase "boom goes the dynamite" and is selling it on t-shirts.  According to my brother, the boom kid sees no money from this.  Too bad for him.

UPDATE:::

I guess this guy isn't hiding after all.  He appartently decided to go on Letterman and was on Thursday night.

Good for him.  I hope he parlays the thing into a career.  It has worked for William Hung.
