ALERT!
If you love Halloween and the magic of Jack O Lanterns glowing in
the DARK…
If you have memories of trick or treating on cool NIGHTS and the
secret thrill of being FRIGHTENED in the Halloween NIGHT…
If you want to preserve Halloween NIGHT for future generations…
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Take action now!
The "brilliance" of our lawmakers has reached dangerous levels.
There is currently an agreement reached in the House and Senate to
EXTEND Daylight Savings Time until the first Sunday in NOVEMBER.
Yes. November. This means that darkness, the glorious Halloween
darkness would NOT creep in earlier…that young Trick or Treaters
would not enjoy the NIGHT while draped in their finest MONSTER wear…
that Halloween would be mostly DAYLIGHT.
This is WRONG!
You can read all about it here:
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/07/22/congress.daylighttime.ap/index.html
But this quote is particularly loathsome. "Kids across the nation
will soon rejoice, because they'll have another hour of daylight
trick-or-treating."
Kids don't want another hour of daylight on HALLOWEEN NIGHT! Hey
want the darkness to come, they want night to fall, they want
monsters, ghosts, goblins, werewolves, and vampires to roam.
DAYLIGHT will most certainly prevent this.
Seriously, NOW is the time to take action. Since this is already
AGREED, the chances are high that it will be passed into law (like
the secret passing of the extension of the Patriot Act for TEN YEARS
that happened at MIDNIGHT on July 22)
Contact your congressman, your senators and representatives and urge
them to vote AGAINST this inane idea. They are slowly taking away
our favorite holiday. Making it "SAFE"when there was never a
danger, making it "SUNNY" when the whole purpose of it is to peer
into the darkness on the one NIGHT in the year that it's ok to do so…
They are ruining HALLOWEEN. And if we can't stop it, we can at
least voice our displeasure.
PLEASE, make your voice heard. If you don't know your
representatives, I'll help you…if you don't know what to say, just
copy the following text:
Dear ___________
I have recently heard of the planned energy conservation agreement
to extend Daylight Savings Time until the first Sunday in November.
I disagree strongly and urge you to vote AGAINST passing this
agreement into law.
The change on the country's established monthly time schedule and
the adverse effect such a measure will have on one of this country's
greatest treasures, Halloween, will be extremely detrimental.
Please vote against this law.
Sincerely,
Copy and Paste this if you need to, and SPREAD this around.
Welcome the Halloween darkness? No, not anymore. Keep Halloween
enveloped in the night, where it truly belongs.
Sincerely,
Joseph Fotinos
(Prof. Griffin)
Kriegerg,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I had heard a little bit about this, but never even considered the effect it would have on Halloween. I'll certainly be shooting out some mail on this one. Messing with Halloween? That's just wrong.
This really isn't going to effect Halloween at all. They may extend daylight savings time, but nobody can extend daylight itself. The sun will still set about 4:30 in October, only this will make the clocks read 5:30. This will only effect the clocks not the sun and moon.
I haven't seen Halloween activities after dark for years anyway. Everyone does their stuff in late afternoon
Should I copy and paste the picture at the end of the letter too? That might freak them out ! :)
Hmmm I remember I did stay out pretty late or at least until it was dark. I think Halloween's been getting some pretty bad raps these last few years and I don't like it. (my childhood!)
