Two days ago I finally got " Manos the Hands of the Fate". The reason I got it was because in a recent issue of "Entertainment Weakly" they ran an articale on the movie. It included a lot of backstory on it, some of it I had allready heard about.
Well,
Due to how terrible the movie sounded my mom, yes my MOM, became wanted to see Manos the Hands of Fate. And not the funny MST3K she was intereseted in the uncut actual movie. I told her it's a terrible movie but I ordered it anyway beause MST3K usually cuts scenes out of the movie for time reasons and I wanted to see those.
So I decided to test run it the day I got. Oh man, it's terrible. Joel and the Bots must have had a hard time with this one.
It's certainly not the worst movie ever. I think the worst movie would have to be one that makes me depressed upon viewing it (several movies do this) but Manos is certainly amongst the worst.
As soon as I get home from my grandma's this weekend I'm going to watch this with mom.
Cheers mum.
Good old Manos. Like you Dave, I've only recently viewed this movie - although I did so (thankfully) with the help of Joel, Servo, and Crow. I thought it was hilarious, but like you, don't think it's the worst movie ever made. My hat's off to you for actually watching the movie uncut and on its own.
The good thing about this movie is that the backstory is more interesting than the actual movie itself. I felt bad for the guy who played Torgo.
Anyone who has interest in this at all should check out these articles. Pretty interesting, IMO:

So what was cut from Manos?:)
Since you really want to know Dunners...
*spoilers*
The first cut I noticed (and I'm quite sure it was a cut but who knows) Was when the family was driving to their destiantion they get caught in a dead end. The wife and husband say a few things (Dad: "Call down I'll turn around and go down another path") Nothing significant.
And a scene I know for sure cut out was the oldest wife's punishment. This occured after Torgo lost his hand. The master had the Oldest Wife bound and he began to slap her silly and tear off some of her dress. She goes on how he is loosing power and even Torgo has risked disobeying him. This is kind of significant I think, I mean for Manos not in general, it kind of helps put a point that evil could be dying out (at least the Manos religion)
That was all I could catch cut wise and that may have been it (sadly)
With the original version you can't help but notice how crappy the wifes agurmant of what to do with the family. You can hear the oldest saying 'I'm the oldest and Iknow best and the child must die!"
LOL!
One of the worst argumensts ever filmed!

I do remember that bit in the MST 3K version, especially her line about the Master losing his power and Crow's classic response:"I think we know what she really means." You can keep your French Connection, Bullet and To Live and Die and in LA chase scenes I'll never forget the exciting watch the angry dad drive the car out of the dead-end scene.
I do remember her mentioned the whole "loosing power" thing on the show but she goes into greater detail in this one cut scene.
Oh boy, tommorow we're going to watch this because it's my mom's day off. What a waste of a good free day.
This is quite an awful film. It seems to share some qualities with The Beast of Yucca Flats (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/beastyucca/) too. The other funny thing is the whole idiocy with the mom and dad staring at the painting of the Master. How long do they obsess over that thing?
Not as long as I had to watch this junk but pretty close I think.

OK, so there was more to those scenes than what MST3k showed. Thanks for the info. Do enjoy (if that's the right word) the movie today and I hope the brilliant Torgo theme doesn't stay with you too long after the movie ends. :)
Oh,boy.....Andrew mentions Tor in "B. of Y. Flats"...and not i'm seeing Tor as Torgo!
"Masta want ta see ya."
Now THATS an image that will stay with me awhile....
