Title: Summer time slump?
Post by: trekgeezer on July 31, 2005, 09:27:54 AM
Hey is it just me or does the board seem awfully slow as far as postings? I guess it's the time of year with everyone vacationing or doing family stuff.

Just wondering.

Now you aren't planning on going on vacation soon, are you?

I noticed that also I was worried that the board was dying out, so I made about ten posts in just one day last week. It seemed like it got some life kicekd back up. I hope it's just because it's summer.

It's summertime. Families are taking vacations. People are getting outside more. Teenagers actually have something more to do than go to school and get on the computer at night; not to mention summer jobs. There is a rumor about more people going to the movies during the summer, but the box office returns have not evidenced this for the summer. When school starts and the weather starts getting colder, not to mention less daylight, people will be getting on the internet more to join the rest of us who don't have anything better to do during the summer (sigh).

Hey I would never announce a vacation with you lurking around Menard, because I know you would treat me to one of your royal skewerings.

I had also noticed the slump.
I would write a thread on a Sunday and then check the board the following Sunday to see that it was still on the board near the top.

LOL. That was to funny Rich Andrini. : )

Well, I let go of my Netflix membership after being with them for 6 months and my movie marathon has come to a crawl this summer with 14 movies in June and only 7 movies in July, but I have been reading the post on a regular basis.

July Viewings:

Hell Comes to Frogtown **
They Came to Cordura ****
Clerks ***
Batman Begins ****
War of the Worlds ****
White Heat ****
Commanche Station ****

Been doing a lot of things as always, but it seems that my list of available movies has just about run out. Covered all the genres quite well. Have about 100 films I wouldn't mind seeing. I have about 15 cheapie DVD's yet to watch and occasionally some films on Encore, TCM, and AMC.  Also have a few rent one get one free coupons for Blockbuster that are good till October. Should get some of those newer DVD releases with the coupons in the months ahead.

Been working out 12 hours a week at the gym, in the middle of 3 books, started new self defense training recently, taking some summer day trips, starting on a new webpage, while doing some of my usual tasks at home.

By the way Rich your from the New York area, right? We just came back from Sam's Point Preserve on the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge just West of Exit 18 near New Paltz on the N.Y. State Rt. 87. We went to the top off a mountain plateau that has a very unique feature called the Ice Caves where you can find ice year round between large splits in the mountain which you enter from the above cliffs. It cost $7 a car load and you can eat all the wild blueberries and rasberries you can. I hear August is the best time to pick them. People take baskets with them and fill them before returning home. There are also great views, lakes, and waterfalls, not to mention wildlife. Saw on the trail rattlesnake, wild turkey, and falcons. Not far from the West Point Museum I told you about last year. Check it out if your looking for a quick adventure. Could take you 2-3 days to explore if you take in the adjoining Minnewaska State Park. World famous for rock climbers. A whole lot to do in that area and then you have the Catskills just North of them.

>>>Been working out 12 hours a week at the gym

Getting rid of all that winter baby fat?

Man, Scott, you are one hell of a busy guy!  Which books are you reading?  I'm drowning under four subjects of Uni readings so there's not much time for recreational reading any more, even if my subjects are interesting.

Since it's winter here, I guess I don't have an excuse otherwise: I usually check in on the board every weeknight, and once or so on the weekend [including friday] but I've seen some good movies, and had some stuff happen, so when I get more time I'll post a little something that will hopefully add a bit of zest.  It would be good to get that one topic or so every few months that I create out of the way! :-P

12 hours a week? Damn that's a lot more than me. It's pretty much three days a week at  hour and a half of work outs (not including running to and from the gym and walking the dogs.)

You must be looking good by now or soon.

I got to say Scott you do more things in New York than I do or even know about. I went to the Catskills a couple of years ago to go snowboarding. Besides that I go slam danceing at the rocks clubs like CBGB (by the way I am going to see the punk group the Misfits play their soon) or have 4 budwisers and 2 shots of Jack Daniels at the the various bars in Manhattan :)

Everyone on this board should watch that one, if they haven't already!  I don't think I want to watch it again, but who can turn down a chance to watch Joe Namath acting (and looking just like he did in that episode of The Brady Bunch)?

Or Ann Margaret?

You can check out the East State Pen and some other creepy places at Modern Ruins (http://www.oboylephoto.com/ruins/index.htm).

I've posted that before, but they have added some new photo essays since then. Got some perfect horror/ghost movie settings over there.

Wow, those are some great photo's Trek-Geezer.  First found out about this place while watching FEAR on MTV a few years ago as they did one show from there. The photographer was pretty good on your link.

Here's a link to Edgar Allen Poe's House (http://www.nps.gov/edal/) in Philadelphia where he lived for 6 years. Here are the stories he wrote from this place.

Murders in the Rue Morgue
The Pit and the Pendulum
The Tell-Tale Heart
The Black Cat
The Gold-Bug
The Fall of the House of Usher
The Masque of the Red Death
The Purloined Letter
The Cask of Amontillado
A Descent into the Maelstrom
William Wilson
The Man of the Crowd
The Oval Portrait

You can visit Edgar Allen Poe's grave (http://asylumeclectica.com/sightseer/us/md/poe/grave.htm) in Baltimore.

Title: 12 hours a week?
Post by: Menard on August 02, 2005, 10:51:02 AM
Being that Scott has divulged some of his weekly routine, one of which is his 12 hour a week workout schedule, some of the board members have wondered what Scott includes in his workout. Fear not fellow bad movie gurus, for I am here to fill that void. (I heard that)

Any good workout schedule includes a range of exercises designed to give a complete workout to the various parts of the body. Scott alots a good 1 1/2 to 2 hours for this which includes:

Arm Curls: The ideal weight to use for this is 8 ounces. It just so happens that his remote control weighs 8 ounces and he warms up by picking it up several times during his routine.

Digit Manipulation and Wrist Flex (minds out of the gutter): It is important to keep the hands in top shape (minds...minds) for a B-movie lover (ahem). The same remote used for arm curls provides Scott ample oppotunity to exercise those digits and wrists. (stop it with the comments)

Leg Lifts: Scott is not lost to the impostance of keeping the legs in top shape and has brought the simple exercise of leg lifts to a science. Of course this includes the all important lifting of the legs, then letting the legs back down. During the process of letting his legs down, Scott is aware of the potential for injury during this cycle and has found that resting the legs on somethings helps to prevent this. For this purpose, Scott recommends a footstool.

Butt-ups: This often concludes Scott's workout routine and involves standing from a seated position. This is an important part of the exercise schedule as it coincides with other routines such as: going to the bathroom, changing the video, and making popcorn.

Yes, Scott has taken exercise to the level of art and is very devoted to these routines. You too can be like Scott and commit yourself to a regular workout schedule. With enough determination and regular application of the principles, you too can look like this:

Yep, I think you've got it Menard, but that is only the warm up.

The 12 hours consist of at most 6 hours of weight training a week and on average 6 hours of group exercise. These two types of fitness compliment each other and help balance out your weekly program. Then to do 3 hours of self-defense training a week. This should get you in great shape for yard work.
