Title: OT: Editing software help
Post by: Scottie on August 01, 2005, 10:57:19 PM
Hello,

I know this is off topic for a bad movie forum, but since this is the only forum I visit maybe someone here can help me. I'm having trouble with my Adobe Premiere Pro editing software. Right now I'm trying to piece together a project using still photos of a hockey camp I taught, but in the viewing window where one can sample their work in progress, all of my pictures have been zoomed in on making most of them impossible to tell what they are. It says the images are fit to screen, but they obviously aren't. How can I fix this problem so that I can get on with my work?

If you don't know the answer to my problem, no worries. You can still help by directing me to an appropriate forum who will be able to solve this deeeep mystery. Thank you for your time.

I've been having the same problem as well, although I just noticed it recently.

What version are you using?  I didn't have a big problem with Premiere 6, but noticed no.7 zoomed in a bit more.

Also, I noticed that although it's supposed to fit in the screen, there is still an area which isn't shown, although not very big.  Maybe hook up the computer to a TV, if you haven't already, either via the computer itself or through a video camera [which I do] so that you can see what it looks like on TV, maybe it just isn't previewing properly on the computer.  Otherwise maybe try playing with the size of the picture itself to fit it in the screen.

If neither works, I can't really tell you how to fix it.  Sorry!

Well, I can't say how Adobe works since I use Ulead PhotoImpact, but in that program I know there's a "view" or "zoom" option which changes the zoom ratio of the image in its own window, and I suspect the problem people are having here has to do with their zoom settings. There has to be something similar in Adobe.

Hello,

I fixed the problem and I might be able to help you out, Dean. Apparently our clips aren't scaled down when we add them to the project sequence, so to scale them down, do this (I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0)

project > project settings > general > check box labeled "scale clips to project dimensions when adding to sequence."

Now you can add all of your clips to the timeline and your monitor will display them at normal size. It goes deep into the issue of various aspect ratios. Here's where I found the information:

under Premiere Pro Help, Capturing or importing various aspect ratios:

"By default, Adobe Premiere Pro attempts to preserve the size of imported clips. If size isn't preserved upon import, the Scale Clips to Project Dimensions When Adding to Sequence option may be turned on in the Project > Project Settings > General dialog box (this option is off by default)."

Hope this helps you all.

A friend of mine also had the same problem while trying to create a picture sequence with pictures from a digital cam. We noticed that if we resized the pictures with any picture editor to a maximun of 1024 pixels per side (even Paint can do it), everything went fine.
