Title: The Offence (1973)
Post by: Wence on September 06, 2005, 06:33:00 PM
THE OFFENCE (GB 1973)

I was very surprised by this film: Sean Connery in his (probably) darkest and most disturbing role of his whole career.

It´s about a police seargent that has to do with a serious case concerning sexual offences towards little school girls.

As I said, he atmospere is very dark and it´s definitely one of those movies I would not recommend you to watch before going to a party.

It contains no splatter or horror effects, it has just some little "shocking" scenes, but more than a horror movie it is a psycho-trip.

Heard very good things of this one and also enjoyed some other Sidney lumet movies. I'll rent it if I see any copy.

While I have only seen bits and pieces of it, if you want to see great acting, then this is the film to watch. Connery seldom has been better.

I'd also like to mention the late Ian Bannen, who is also in the film. Almost everybody knows Connery, but few people know Bannen, but he may have been even a better actor then Connery. Watch him in "The Flight of the Phoenix," "From Beyond the Grave," and/or "Braveheart," and you'll see what I mean.
