Is this movie EVER going to get a re-release on DVD? Even blockbuster online doesn't offer it as a rental. Sure I can buy it online for $50 used....
I have it on DVD.
That's because I archived it onto a DVD+RW from the VHS tape using my DVD recorder.
Actually, A special edition Flash Gordon would be awesome and totally revive my interest in the movie.
I'd love to hear running commentary with Max von Sydow, Sam Jones, Melody Anderson, Timothy Dalton & director Mike Hodges.
And anything behind the scenes would be cool...especially the production design.

Well it's good you have it to watch although the quality burning from a VHS tape isn't that good. It's like they only plan on releasing the bare bones, I actually was holding out for a special edition. My folks had this on VHS when i was a kid, i'm not sure if i watched this more when i was 6 or Barbarella. To me it was eye candy and pure fantasy. The costumes were lavish and while the dialogue often laughable it was just a great fun movie. I brought this up because for the past year i've heard a rumor of it's re-release that has never seen the light of day.
In fact here is an article Flash Gordon (http://www.queenworld.com/artman/publish/article_233.shtml) The problem is it's the UK release..where's region 1?? Damn those brits gotta get all the goodies
Isn't this year the 25th anniversary? What better time, there's no place on amazon you can even request it. I'm sure the studio knows how popular this movie would be, i hope they aren't holding out for a new flash gordon movie or i'll be forced to use the BORE WORMS!

Oh, by the way, CHECK THIS OUT. (http://www.boreworms.com/advertisement.html)
Not much there, but funny.
And yes, it is the 25th anniversary of Flash Gordon.
Makes us feel old doesn't it Susan?
Heh!

NO! NOT THE BORE WORMS! (http://boreworms.ytmnd.com/)
Ash - I already feel old. I was talking about this movie at work with a friend and he has NEVER heard of it. I got him to watch Suspiria and he loves it, i'm easing him into Barbarella...he'll be a B movie fan in no time. I love to convert the unbelievers.
I then began to realize it's a pointless life i lead in being amazed by these things. Nobody I know except myself watched the old george reeves Superman episodes...god I loved superman! But maybe I'm living under the false impression that those my age grew up the same as I did, watching lots of old stuff and crappy movies. Maybe i'm the exception. I think they all mostly watched cartoons, I watched a few but I mostly watched tv shows (non cartoons) on at prime time and lots of movies, many of them not really "family films" since my parents didn't buy movies for us or even go to movies for us. Back then it wasn't all about pleasing and spoiling the kids. Hell, I never even had a happy meal until I was an adult. I ddn't know ther was such a thing - toys for kids? Only on christmas and birthdays! We were lucky if they let us tag along to some crappy Dr. Zhivago re-release. But i consider myself lucky for it, because without that type of upbringing a person like me just couldn't sit down and thoroughly enjoy something like "The might peking man"
take heed during interrogation time

Hmmm... I find it funny that I saw a copy of 'Flesh Gordon' on DVD last year sometime.
Yet no Flash Gordon release? For shame!
At least I have my copy of Barbarella and Buckaroo Banzai to keep me company in the meantime...
Campy, campy, but lots of fun. I remember watching it on TV as a kid and being overwhelmed at the ammounts of cheese. Loved the settings, though, and the acting was great, so hysterical that even a kid around ten like me could notice every layer in every character.
I'd loved to see that one again.
I am SO going to buy this T-shirt!

Um, Susan...
That link you provided brought up a new page that said this:
"Angelfire does not allow direct linking
from offsite, non-Angelfire pages,
to files hosted on Angelfire.
This practice of 'remote linking' reduces
our ability to serve out the homepages
of our members quickly and efficiently."
Cheap bastards.
Oh well, at least you tried!
I'm thinking about getting this shirt too...
What d'ya think?

I accidentally taped over my copy of Flash Gordon. Still kicking myself -ouch!
They've got crap like "Look Who's Talking Too" out, wasting perfectly good blank dvds, yet a classic like Flash Gordon is just wasting away. Grrrr.
Flash!! Ahhh!Ahhhh!! The soundtrack by Queen is the most memorable part of the movie.
I am too shocked the FG still hasn't been rereleased. I remember say 5 years ago when you could still find it I was going to get a copy, then put it off. I'm still mad at myself for not doing it. Also, for some reason, I can't remember if I first saw it in the theater or on TV. But I can remember seeing movies in the theater (and what they were) before FG came out. I don't know....Also, that shirt is awesome!

I bought the soundtrack better than 10 years ago (on cassette of course). I still pull it out and play it every once and a while. It is such a good soundtrack because it has cheezy quotes from the movie dropped in all over the place. Nothing pumps me up more than the theme song!
I can't recommend it enough for a true Flash Gordon fan.
"Flash Gordon. Quarterback, New York Jets"
"Forget it Ming. Dale's with me!"
"Klytus! Are your men on the right pills? Maybe you should execute their trainer!"
"41....42....43....Go Flash Go!"
"Flash, I love you! But we only have 14 hours to save the Earth! "
"Do you, Ming the Merciless, ruler of the universe, take this earthling, Dale Arden, to be your empress of the hour?
Of the hour? Yes.
Do you promise to use her as you will?
Certainly!
Not to blast her into space? ... Until such time as you grow weary of her?
I do.
I do not!"
and my favorite is nearly every word out of Vultan's mouth during the climax of the movie:
"Stand by my Hawkmen.....
Ha ha ha ha ha ha goooood!!!!!. They're coming through......
Hawkman sorties.....DIVE!!!
Second wave......DIVE!!!
Impetuous boy....oh well, who wants to live forever? DIVE!!
Come on, its time to bail out.
Flash: Sorry Vultan, I'm not coming.
What!!!! you'll be destroyed!
Flash: You loony bird get out of here, they need you on the ground.
Onward my brave Hawkmen! Let this be known forever as Flash Gordon's Day!
Ash - if you buy that shirt upload a pic of you wearing it. I saw that site months ago and toyed with getting it until i saw it was an image on a cartoon drawing of a shirt so there was no real concept of how it would actually look printed out. What makes the film also is the villian. Why are the best villians always efeminate aliens with british accents? Ming, Zod...well anyways ;-) Obviously the most colorful characters are Ming and the Princess and the Birdmen and...basically everyone but flash and dale who are so white bread america it's not even funny.
I have the soundtrack and it's funny that i listen to it in the car singing "FLASH! AHHHHH! KING OF OF THE IMPOSSIBLE!" with windows down and absolutely no care of all the eyes staring at me in bewilderment. I like that th soundtrack was written for the film, films miss out on that larger concept when they just basically pick hit radio songs or whatever to appear in the movie. Highlander also had a kickass soundtrack. I used to love the movie before it became popular.
It has everything. The sexpot princess every guy can drool over. The odd attire flash is required to wear prior and during his execution scene...lol Flying birdmen! Spaceships, monsters, aliens, meteor showers, brainwashing, adventure, erotic, villians, heroes, costumes, violence, rock n' roll.
Will you destroy this....earth?
Later! I like to play with things awhile. Before total annhiliation
I saw Flash Gordan a bunch of times when TV used to show movies instead a billion reality shows. Man Queen justed rocked out on Flash Gordan. I think I will wear my Queen T-shirt but you guys should see the looks I get when I wear that shirt. People that never heard of Queen think well that I am "Queen". Screw that though its ROCK AND ROLL (http://www.websmileys.com/sm/music/musik13.gif)
-------------------------------------------------
Most of all I hate dancing then work, exercise, people, stupid people
People that never heard of Queen think well that I am "Queen".
Well Rich, I can't speak for how you look in that shirt...maybe you give people other reasons to think that? J/K
Seriously, like them or not, who the Hell hasn't heard of Queen? Are there such people in this world?
