Director Robert Wise has passed away. He made a lot of great movies. Among them are The Day the Earth Stood Still, Westside Story, The Sound of Music, The Haunting, The Sand Pebbles, The Andromeda Strain, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
He was also the film editor on Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons.
He was a great talent and will be sorely missed.
It surely is an impressive list of films that he contributed to. He certainly did make alot of classic movies. I never realised that the same director of the Day the Earth Stood Still also made Star Trek: The Motion picture.

But hopefully never forgotten...
Ah....
I remember now that he did direct Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
I kept thinking Ray Wise...The guy who plays the President in the Command & Conquer game I've been hooked on lately.
Wrong guy.
R.I.P. Robert Wise.

In some ways, he is remembered as a great director, yet a number of his great films (and the fact that he directly them) are sorely forgotten. RIP
I've alwasy loved the sound of music and I'm not a fan of musicals, still can't believe he directed west side story, I've always hated that film, the story, dialogue etc.
I remember when I first saw the film in middle school I got creeped out by the "Boy, boy, crazy boy song" as I thougth the jets were closet homosexuals.
Mostly due to the fact that they would sing really fruity songs and break out into ballet. Now I know why people were scared of that gang heh heh.
but still its just a film, and not close to a fav of mine. But I still respect mr. Wise for all his work and his movies.
RIP
The Haunting is still the best plain old Ghost Story-type movie ever made. Other good ghost movies rip it off in so many ways --

Here, here Mr Johnson. The Haunting is the best haunted house film ever made. Wise' movies should be taught in film classes.
