Title: Mysterious Island (2005)
Post by: trekgeezer on September 18, 2005, 10:14:28 PM
Yes a 3 hour remake by the Hallmark Channel.   Kyle MacLachlan , Omar Gooding, Gabrielle Anwar,  Danielle Calvert,  Jason Durr , and  tag along confederate soldier escape a Rebel prison camp in 1863 only to find themselves stranded on a South Pacific island with Captain Nemo(Patrick Stewart) and his one remaining crew man Joseph ( Roy Marsden).

Not a bad movie considering the TV budget and effects. There's a giant  praying mantis, giant rats, giant cobras, giant lizards, giant spiders, a giant black bird, and yes a giant squid. Sorry, no giant chicken in this one. However, there is a lost treasure, an amulet with half a treasure map, and pirates.

Many a buckle gets swashed and many a pirate and good guy gets eaten.

The performances are  pretty pedestrian. Patrick Stewart seems to be walking through his part as Nemo. Durr's character is highly irritating and you want him to die a lot sooner than he does.

Some of Nemo's hardware is pretty interesting, repeating rifles and nifty looking bazooka thingy.

If you've got the time there's a lot worse ways to spend it.

What's up with the Hallmark channel lately? Didn't they just put out another turd involving a meteor or something? I thought only the Scifi channel and TNT had the idiocy to believe because they showed movies that somehow made them a functioning studio...
