Remember when HBO wasn't just all about award winning shows? Remember when they would show pure crap during the day and then a huge movie every Saturday night? I remember the days fondly, especially during the summer when I would sit back and enjoy the terrible flicks.
Freaked is one of those flicks.
The film is about an actor named Ricky Coogan (Alex Winters). He's the spokesperson for EES (everything except shoes), a large corporation that is trying to distrubute Zygrot 24, a chemical that can cause mutations. Coogan goes to South America for the company and gets kidnapped by Elijah Skuggs (Randy Quaid). Skuggs uses Zygrot 24 to turn Coogan into a freak for his freak show.
Overall, this film holds up quite nicely considering it is 12 years old. I have seriously fond memories of it growing up, and it's fantastic to finally own it on DVD. The jokes are still pretty decent, and I found myself laughing at them once again nearly a decade and a half later.
This film is the absolute definition of "cult film". It's absurd, poorly acted (although intentional), funny and all around gross. This is one of those films that you just have to see, and I'm sure that EVERYONE on this board would get a major kick out of it. I would highly recommend picking it up on DVD not only for the film but also due to the extensive special features.

I liked a few parts- like the annoying kid getting sucked out of the plane- but too much of the humor was forced. Nice makeup effects though...
You are correct about the makeup. That's one of the things I failed to mention.
The makeup was done by Screaming Mad George whose work can be seen in Beyond Re-Animator among other films. It was also quite interesting to find out just who was involved with this film. Catherine Hardwicke was the production designer and now she is a director with a few sucesses (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown). And, if I'm not mistaken one of the Chiodo brothers (Killer Klowns) produced the film.
I liked this one.
I do agree that a lot of the humor did seem forced.
I haven't seen this one in a few years and if I remember correctly, the last time I saw it, it was on HBO.

I saw this back in the 90's. I recall being mildly amused by it but that was so long ago that I don't remember much of the details other than the basic story line.
Some of it I find very funny, but some does feel forced. Very quick movie though, it's like 75 minutes. Worth a watch, and has decent rewatchability.
"Wait, you don't know about his giant rasta eyeballs with machine guns!"
I love FREAKED, and was very excited to find it had been released on a special edition. I showed it to my roommate and he was just mind-boggled about how bizarre the whole movie was.
It makes me laugh and it has Megan Ward in it. Two for two!
