Title: Shiri (1999)
Post by: Scott on October 03, 2005, 10:18:35 PM
SHIRI (1999) - Decent action drama film from Korea. This film is suppose to have been Korea's biggest box office draw in history (next to Yongary I'm sure). It's about a highly trained female assassin/sniper from North Korean who is sent to South Korea  to kill the president. If you like modern action drama with some romantic warrior element then this might be your type of film.

I saw this movie a long time ago and really enjoyed it. It had very nice pacing and some decent character development, it was definitley above U.S action movies by a notch or two.

I was entertained by the film, but a bit disappointed.  The action scenes weren't as good as I would have liked.  They were decent though.  Overall, solid film, but not great..  I'd say 3 slimes.

Scott,

I'm loving that you are posting more Asian films lately!

I didn't find Shiri to be that great.  Just as Jim H said, I was disappointed by the action scenes in the film.  It was a decent flick but nothing compared to the director's follow up flick, Tae Guk Gi which I highly recommend.  Fantastic film about the Korean war.  Very moving and very very very powerful.

I'll keep a look out for TAE GUK GI Skaboi. The training scene with of the female in SHIRI was quite extreme.
