Title: Updating an old topic
Post by: The Burgomaster on November 14, 2005, 09:32:18 AM
We have discussed this before, but I think it is worth updating.

Where do most of your movie-watching?  Do you have a particular room in your house, a favorite chair or pillow, etc.?  Also, do you have one environment for watching movies alone and a DIFFERENT environment for watching movies with other people?  And, if you care to share the info, what is your favorite snack to eat while watching movies?

I watch movies in my family room, regardless of whether I am watching them alone or with guests.  We have a big sectional that I usually sit on.  When I am alone, I may grab a pillow and lie down while I am watching.  When I have guests, I usually either sit or recline with my feet up on the foot rest.  My favorite movie-watching snacks are:

- Popcorn
- Jujubees
- Ice cream

How about the rest of you?

We only have one TV, in our living room, so all movies are watched there.

I generally sit in my recliner, though sometimes I lay on the couch (my wife often commandeers the couch).  Sometimes, we sit on the couch together, or even on the floor.

As for snacks, we often don't snack, but sometimes eat popcorn or a bowl of ice cream during a movie.  If it is a 'movie night' planned thing, we will often eat finger type foods, like hot wings, veggies and dip, etc as our actual dinner (I'm on a pretty strict diet now, but in the 'old days,' ie, pre-diet, this would include tater skins, and all manners of greasy, starchy stuff) - the TGI Friday's things you get at the grocery stores were/are movie night favorites.  Root Beer is the 'treat' drink of choice on these nights.  (I LOVE root beer, but we don't drink it except on 'occasions').

>Where do most of your movie-watching?

I have 3 spots - either the computer here, the portable dvd player in the bedroom, or the main tv, which doesn't happen much since my daughter is usually watching sleeping beauty or 101 dalmations or some such and she's so cute I can't ask her to put it on hold so's I can watch "Scarecrow Gone Wild".

Do you have a particular room in your house, a favorite chair or pillow, etc.?

Favorite spot is the couch, but that's usually reserved for my wife - on rare evenings I can snag it first.

Also, do you have one environment for watching movies alone and a DIFFERENT environment for watching movies with other people?

I watch most movies solitary since they tend to be action/Asian in nature and my wife hates Hong Kong cinema more than the critics hate Joel Schumacher. For get-togethers it's the main tv.

And, if you care to share the info, what is your favorite snack to eat while watching movies?

That would be vanilla-bean ice cream. the purer the better.

We usually watch movies in the living room on the main tv but will watch them upstairs in the bedroom now and then. When watching movies alone, I will usually watch them on my computer.
Eating during a movie is fairly simple like popcorn or chips of some sort.

I watch in the living room from my giant lazy-boy. I prefer watching with someone, but since my kids have left home it's usually me alone or with my wife asleep on the couch.

Our only tv is in my bedroom, which proves both beneficial and distracting. When I'm writing on my computer and my girlfriend wants to watch tv, I have to put up with the noise which is usually very bothersome as I'm trying to get in the groove. But on the flip side, it means we watch movies together in my bed with some pillows propped up against the back wall. If friends are over, I turn the tv to the side and we watch it on the floor with a ton of pillows. As for food, I try to avoid eating extraneous snacks, so if it is food, it's our dinner-- usually soup, pasta, homeade mexican, or some other tasty treat that I feel like cooking.

I also watch a large portion of movies in the library here on campus. They have private viewing rooms where if you can fit one of their oversized chairs through the door, it can be very comfortable.

Also, here on campus is a professional private screening room about the size of a theater for dailies where they hold private and public screenings of old films, foreign films, modern films, and any film you can get on any format from 16mm down to beta or 8mm. This place is rock solid awesome. It has oversized leather chairs with individual drink holders and oversized arm rests so you can share the armrest comfortably with the person sitting next to you. It also has beautiful surround sound and even a lighted walkway with holographic images in the entranceway to your seat. It was donated to the university by an affluent private collector here in the area who holds private screenings of his films twice weekly. This week we watched Charlie Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux, and last week was Hitchcock's Rebecca. The theater is a film lover's wet dream. And the best part is that it doesn't cost a dime to go to. Truly a gift from the heavens.

I have a tv, a dvd player, and a vcr. All cheap and crappy, but were a gift to me from my dad for Christmas 2001. Probably the most he's ever spent on me for gifts ever. I was extremely shocked. So was my mom.

My TV is in room, and I usually watch it while reclining (or sitting up) in my bed.)

I know this isn't the best place for my tv (they say if you watch tv in the same room you sleep in, you'll trouble sleeping) but it's the only room I have right now.  When I get my own place, I'm going to try and arrange the furniture so a comfy chair is front the tv and my bed is in a separate room.

As for snacks, gosh, there's sooo many.  I'm a bit of cheese nut, so I love Cheetos Cheese Popcorn, Gardetto Mustard Pretezels (when I can find them for a good price), Chez Its, Pretzel Rolls,

Best thing to eat while watching TV?  That's easy,

PIZZA!

Dammit, now, I'm hungry!

:(

I always watch dvd in my room well because theirs no other dvd player at my house. I hooked up my PS2 to my stereo so I get some surround sound going. I usually sit on my bed when watching movies. I like popcorn or pizza as snacks.

The VCR is by the couch, so I usually lounge there and watch movies I don't have on DVD.

The DVD player is in the bedroom, so my fiancee and I usual curl up on the bed and watch movies there.  That way, if they're too bad, we can always do other things.

My wife, daughter and I recently moved into a new place that has a LOT more room than our last house.  This means that we now have a 32" TV in our living room and have a room dedicated to movie watching with a 27" TV in it.

If we are going to watch just TV, then we will normally do so in the living room, but if we are going to watch a movie we normally move to the "movie room".  We have a large, oversized couch in there, with the TV, Playstation 2, Gamecube, VCR, and our computer.  The TV is running through an older Aiwa receiver that I've had for probably ten years now.  The Aiwa puts out about 100w per channel and we have two large Technics floor speakers (10" subs, mid, tweeter) and then two small surround sound speakers, one in each corner behind the TV.

Most of the time we just use the PS2 as our DVD player.  On occasion, if there is a film that's in Divx on my computer that my wife wants to see, then I'll hook it up through an RCA input into the TV and we will watch one that way.

Much like Ulthar, if we are planning a movie night, then we will eat something like hot wings or pizza pocket things.  Something small, but greasy.  lol

If it's just a random thing then we will normally eat either popcorn or chips with the occasional bowl of ice cream.

I've only got one tv, in the living room, with a vcr and a dvd player that is hooked into the stereo.  (took me years to figure out that you could do this.)  Foodwise, I go for popcorn, chips & salsa, potato chips or pizza.

We have cable in every room in the house, but I like watching on the largest TV which for now is in the living room.

As far as food goes I like just about anything. Generally quite foods during a movie.

I have a computer in my room which I use to watch dvds and such at night, where I can throw on a set of headphones and not disturb the rest of the house.  That's nice and comfy!

Otherwise it's in our main room with just a normal sized tv with a el cheapo surround sound system for the dvd.  I usually sit down and eat breakfast in front of that tv with a dvd and a bowl of cereal and as such every morning it takes me at least 45 mins to get moving most days [unless I have somewhere important to be that is.]

I don't seem to snack that often during films unless its at the cinemas, in which I like a choc-top or a chocolate bar of some kind, and perhaps, depending on who I'm with, some popcorn.  Otherwise, if I'm watching a movie with my girlfriend we usually get a bag of chips or a block of chocolate.  Yum...
