Hello Kind Sirs!
Me and my mates decided we had to make our own no-budget movie.
And we did!
Big deal I hear you say! Everybody can make a movie. You are half right!
The thing is... our movie has achieved (local) fame and recognition because of the following facts:
The whole movie was recorder using a digital camera. That's a camera... designed to take pictures! Not a mini DV or a normal camcorder.
It was a simple Canon A200 with a basic video recording feature and NO SOUND.
Also... the maximum video length this camera could record was 12-14 seconds (res 320x240).
And the maximum amount of clips a single flash card could hold was around 20.
and of course... NO SOUND.
we had to upload the clips into the computer, edit them and then record all the dialogue and sound effects on top.
All visual effects were drawn by hand (mouse really) on each frame.
its was a long and deeply masochistic ordeal.
but its done! Its cheap, its trashy, its kickass!
And its free for everybody!
Story:
Ben Kesser is a vietnam veteran that works for the mafia as a hitman. One night he discovers a clue about his wifes mysterious death and seeks revenge.
His friend, Hash Brown, a quirky teenage hacker rushes to his aid. Its is going to be a long and perilous adventure. They need the help of a very special friend. The elusive and wise Eric Virgo... a modern day samurai that has sworn never to kill again.
The three heroes venture deep into the New York Underground seeking the truth.
Very soon they discover that the man behind the murder is none other than Doctor Hans von Braun, the leader of the Nazi Ninjas... A crazy scientist with a dream to create a new army of.....
I've said enough...
Its a comedy/parody of the All American Ninja Action Movies.
So there you have it: Ninjas, explosions, guns, hackers, samurai, Nazis, Clones! and its FREE.

All I want to know is what were you guys smoking, and where can I get some?
JOKE... I thought it was pretty cool for what you were working with.
did you watch the whole movie man???
i want a review dudes!
i want a damn review!
seriously now , did you like it?
A review huh? Well let me see. The FX were silly, but still cool for what they were. The characters need some help though.
Ben Kesser is too young for your story to have been in Vietnam, maybe Gulf war.
Hash Brown was a bit Vague as a character.
Eric Virgo… Um, just don’t know what to say.
Hans von Braun was a bit under dressed for a multimillionaire super villain, and didn’t come across as sadistic enough.
As far as the others I have no real opinion about them.
I thought the Mortal Combat scene was killer, I laughed pretty hard over that, and the whole break dancing scene was hilarious.
Over all, I liked the movie, and tried to take it for what it was worth. For no more than what you had to work with I think you guys did a fairly decent job, and would like to see what you could come up with if you had better equipment to work with. I will be keeping an eye out for anything else you put out.
Just my opinions, but what do I know... :)
thanks man! we all appreciate it.
there is going to be a sequel soon... (more like next year...)
it will be called Karate Operation Armageddon...
The main thing is ,, we 'll try to have fun doing it again. an hopefully people will be entertained.
thanks again.
(oh... spread the word!)
I'll take a look at it when I get to my home computer.
I'm in the middle of watching it. So far, I've laughed myself out of my chair three times, once during the torture session (guess when) and once during the 'arming for battle' section, when the 'load the gun' sound effect is used for everything, including the tying of a headband and finally during the secodn ninja fight, where one ninja looks around, sees that all the other ninjas have been shot dead and falls down himself. Gotta love deliberately bad timing.
I have to love the endless supply of ninjas. Isn't it convenient that the corpses vanished? That fact puts your movie on par with Gymkata, since the bodies kept vanishing in that too.
One error I spotted. During the first ninja battle (after they learn Lotus style) I spotted the camera tripod in the background of one shot. Was it intentional?
And who are the people in the pictures that show up seemingly randomly, almost as if they are supposed to be subliminal?
This movie rocks. I hope you had as much fun makin git as I've had watching.
God damn it it's going to take too long for me to down load it. It's been about fifty mintues and it's up to only four percent.
I curently have dial up due to problems with the damn DSL and computer. And one of us in this house is bound to eventually turn it off for the phone. Is there a way to pause the download then start it back up later?
This movie sounds pretty fun from the comments do we now have a modern day Manos the Hands of the Fate?
Dave, I use a program called Flashget which allows you to pause the download. Very handy when I was on dial up.
As for Karate: The Blind Escape, I haven't had the time to download and watch the film, but the whole idea sounds damn interesting [both technically and in story] so I'm looking foward to having a look-see.
thanks shadowphile!! :)
well.. there are many more mistakes in the movie you just have to look carefully! :)
about these mistakes: I'll let you in on a little secret!
we never intended to make a complete movie. we did it to have a good laugh with our friends etc etc.
around the middle of the "production" we arranged a few sneak preview sessions with random people.
they laughed everytime they saw mistakes like this one. the tripod, the fact that hash's facial hair changes for no reason, people appear in shots where they shouldn't, the presence of a toilet paper roll in most scenes, actors laughing in midshot (eric virgo on the rooftop when mr Braun reveals the secret) and loads more.
add the fact that the memory card of my camera could hold around 20 clips, and ate through our batteries like nobodys bussiness... everytime we made a mistake we kind of said "if it looks silly... leave it. we dont have the time!" So yeah. there are mistakes...cause we never took ourselves too seriously.
there was this guy that saw the clips and complained about the bad quality of the visual effects.( the what?!?!?) he complained that they looked cheap and that during the day, guns dont create muzzle flashes.
we tried to explain to him, that in the "Karate blind escape universe" everything makes flashes. and that it is a movie called "Karate the blind escape" , that has only one, half minute, karate scene!!! the rest is guns and swords.
its a parody. its the pinnacle of self-sarcasm. that's the spirit under which it has to be viewed. if you are looking for continuity, good acting and airtight script... you can always pay to see a real movie!
"""And who are the people in the pictures that show up seemingly randomly, almost as if they are supposed to be subliminal?"""
are you talking about the "hacking" scene? well they are really bad greek celebrities, bill gates, a german ww2 officer and some random people... all wanted by the FBI.
i also wanted to ask you guys this. the resolution of the movie is low. but i've had complains that the filesize (380mb) is large. so my question is:
a normal ripped 90min movie is around 700megs. (resolution 720x576)
our movie is 98mins of 320x240 resolution.
is 380 megs too much???
if so... does anyone know of a way to compress it more without compromising the already low quality?
thanks!

master gamawa,
I'm not sure if it will work, but try an avi converter from DivX.com, or any other one out there. Either that or see if there are more advanced compression programs that might work. Just a guess though, I'm no computer expert.
Gamawa my brother is planning to download it at his school and then bring to our house because the computers there are much faster than our home computer.
I might watch this weekend on an extended break from studying.
ok! I hope you enjoy it..
damn I am so self conscious..... :/
*just a light spoiler*
I just saw the first bit, up to the part where the Samurai guy kills that assasain.
That was AWESOME! We need to see moves like that in more real life movies, it's cool in anime but super kick ass in live action.
cool :)
(there is plenty more where that came from)
