So I spent all day today watching movies. Here's what we've got.
ALPHAVILLE (1965)
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK (1975)
GANTZ: DISC 5 (2004)
THE AMITYVILLE HORROR (2005)
THE FILTH AND THE FURY: A SEX PISTOLS FILM (2000)
ALPHAVILLE and PICNIC are part of my Criterion regimen. ALPHAVILLE was an interesting mix of French new wave and surrealist science fiction that I rather enjoyed, and I normally hate French new wave. (THE 400 BLOWS is good, though.) PICNIC was a fantastic movie where almost nothing happens.
GANTZ is a so-so anime, with two episodes per disc for some retarded reason. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR was not good. It's better than the original, but that is saying almost nothing. I mean, dude, just kill your family already.
THE FILTH AND THE FURY was actually a pretty good look at the Sex Pistols. I enjoyed it and I care about the Sex Pistols not so much. Was that really what England was like during the seventies?
So... what did you watch today?
Didn't watch anything today due to work [though as I type this Harry Potter 2 is playing on tv, so I guess that counts.
But yesterday I watched the MST3K version of the Raul Julia 'classic' Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, and recieved a copy of Forbidden Zone in the mail from eBay which I watched a few clips of [to which my sister tells me 'this is the wierdest movie I've ever seen' as she was hanging about at the time] I plan to watch the rest soon.
Picnic at Hanging Rock is a pretty good film, and you're right, nothing really happens. We have some close family friends in the area near Hanging Rock so everynow and then we drop in and have a picnic or something.
I liked Alphaville [you really can't go wrong with Surrealist film, whether or not it's French New Wave]
As for the rest, I haven't seen 'em, but that Sex Pistols film would be good to watch.
Mothra, Them! and Stairway to Heaven (aka A Matter of Life and Death) were on my 'watch list' this week.
