Title: one of the greatest flops ever made.....
Post by: pops_mcfly on November 30, 2005, 11:10:17 AM
There are certain movies I don't consider B-movies, but were unfairly made flops---usually because of something political in them or something. At least that's my opinion why many of them are flops when they clearly don't deserve to be.

for example:

Red Dawn: A lot of yokels trash this movie and claim it's unrealistic for two reasons. 1. We could never be surprise attacked like they were in the movie because we have to high tech of technology, 2. a bunch of kids as the heros is impossible.

I really hate these reasonings because it shows two things--a total over trustment in technoligy-relying on it way to much. and a sad lack of historical knowledge. I always answer these claims with this, 1. If we are so technically advanced that no one could ever sneak over--especially on planes then how do you explain 9/11? If something like that which would be relativley small scale in comparison could happen then a country-wide invasion isn't all that far-fetched--and your relying on technoligy, which has let us down numberous times too much.
2. Kids fighting in a war is unrealistic? Hate to break it too you but most of the soldiers in our wars--all of them mind you- were kids.

Another movie is Paparazzi.

This is a wonderful thriller that in my opinion accurately portrays most if not all o exactly how reporters/their photographers are--especially the paparazzi.

And that's exactly why I think it was a flop. As we all know the press is who controls most of the world--including what movies succeed and which flop. I think this one flopped because it was one of the first to show exactly how reporters are and what kind of people they are, and the press didn't like it. Despite the "sad" faces and remarks the Press may make about these current hurricane tragedies and 9/11 etc. but in reality they are loving this and are GLAD it happened.

why?

because it gets them money. that's all they care about. Whatever happens to America that gets them their almighty dollar is great in their book. How many lives they ruin doesn't matter.

I apoligize if I offended anyone I just needed to speak my mind. Any other films anyone thinks were "forced" to be flops for some reason or another?.....

Red Dawn is a fun movie, but it is by far one of the biggest pieces of Reganesque propaganda to come out of the 80s.  Oh no!  The Russians and The Cubans!!!!  Evil Communists are attacking America!  They hate our freedom!

Bah.

Like I said, it's a fun film, if only because of how bad it is.  I've watched it on numerous ocassions, and will normally sit down and watch it whenever it's on cable.

As for Paparazzi, it's not a masterpiece.  It's a decent way to kill an hour and a half, but I don't believe it even comes to close to showing what real reporters are like.  It shows what the paparazzi are like - slime.  As for honest reporters for CNN and such, it's insane to label them in the same category.

But, I'm sure you would think it OK for a religious zealot actor to make a film completely bashing the Jewish community?

Your talking about Gibson right?

I hate to break it to you but that wasn't Gibson's fault. That's in the bible itself where it shows the jews turning on Christ. The Jews(or most of them anyhow) tend to pick and choose only certain parts of the bible to beleive as real.

Gonna let this one die before a flame war ensues.

Smart move Skaboi. Religion, and Politics are 2 topics that just don’t need to be done on here. We are the rejects of "normality" no need to bicker amongst ourselves

Title: Paparazzi

You really thought PAPARAZZI was accurate? Come on! I thought the movie was a laugh riot because it so completely overdid the evil photogs' sleaze factor. The Nazis in SCHINDLER'S LIST were portrayed with more subtelty than these guys. Heck, the Nazis in the Indiana Jones movies were treated with more subtelty. And the hero is portrayed as being as big, if not an even bigger sociopath than the villains.

"The Hollywood Hall of Shame: the Most Expensive Flops in Film History" by Harry and Michael Medved.

138 films, in alphabetical order, from "The Adventures of Marco Polo" to "Zabriskie Point."

While "Megaforce" is the only film in the book, reviewed here, the book is proof that film audiences are not always a good judge of quality films. While most of the films listed, can only be considered to be fair, if enjoyable, there are actually very films listed that are poor. Indeed, some of the films are quite good, and a couple even rising to excellence.

Red Dawn was a silly, little action movie.  Nothing more, nothing less.

I've not seen Paparazzi.

"Kingdom of Heaven" was decent.

It makes people think, and it's pretty much anti-war and pro-tolerance. And it's got the Crusades. So pro-tolerance anti-war sentiments in the Middle East between Christians, Muslims, and Jews, that make people think, being advertised to Americans? Phaw. I'm surprised they didn't expect it to fall short.

That, and there was weird press at the beginning; one magazine was saying how the hero played by Orlando Bloom would have to go to Jerusalem to "fight evil Arab invaders" in the Crusades. WTF? This was in a preteen girls' magazine, mind! So I was just like, "....What?" and then threw the magazine away.      ((I'm the eldest of 4 girls in my family, so we've got craploads of varying magazines in our house.))
