Testing out the new forum with a new topic from me. Just dipping my feet in and giving it a swirl with a fairly light post:
I just borrowed/rented on DVD [it's going to be raining the next few days]:
The Machinist
The Warriors
Lords Of Dogtown
Gigli
Deathstalker IV
Cecil B Demented
Beyond Re-Animator
Get Carter [Original]
Watched Lords of Dogtown tonight. I liked it overall, though it's always unnerving to see a guy on screen with long blonde hair, rosy cheeks and a girls name. Heath Ledger also reminded me a hell of a lot like Val Kilmer, which was interesting. I really liked the style of the film.
I've seen Cecil B Demented before, but not the others. Looking foward to them all, though I deliberately stacked the list with films I think will be entertaining/really good to balance out the fact that I've gone completely insane and I must be thinking of giving myself personal bodily harm. For why else would I borrow the film with the tagline that gives me the entire plot: "Murder. Blackmail. Temptation. Redemption. It's been a busy week" and which actually needs to tell you how the hell to prounounce it properly... I must be nutso...
Ah well, I'll post more once I've watched them.
Dude!
The Warriors was awesome!
I watched it for the very first time the other day on cable.
It was one of those films that just "slipped through the cracks" for me.
SpikeTV showed it Saturday afternoon.
It was loaded with commercials but I loved it!
You will not soon forget David Patrick Kelley clinking 3 glass soda bottles together on his fingers and goading The Warriors.
"Warriors...Come out to plaaaaay!
I liked it so much that I ordered a brand new widescreen copy of it for me on DVD from cduniverse.com.
And I want a T-Shirt that has the same logo on the back as "The Warriors" vests do!
The Machinist - Excellent
The Warriors - Classic
Beyond Re-Animator - One of my best theatre going experiences
Gigli - ..................Dean..............................you should know better.

Like I said, it's raining out at the moment, and the weather, and lack of interest led to my plans for the week of going to the coast being cancelled, so the movie caught me in a moment of weakness. But hopefully by placing my viewings in a strategic way, I can avoid any trouble by watching the Machinist last, so I can shock my system back to normality with an above par film.
Either that or get really really hammered before hand.
Dean,
I'd go with getting hammered. Might take away the pain a bit. ;)
Oh dear god, I just watched the Gigli trailer, and I'm now very concerned.
The cover of the dvd has Ben Affleck with a gun, and the back seems to imply that this is a semi action film. But the trailer has no action in it whatsoever, and makes it out to be a romantic comedy film [but please hold the romance and comedy]
Talk about the classy advertising. It should be noted that "Maid In Manhatten'' is another trailer on the disc, and that looks like the exact same movie as Gigli, only much more interesting.
I so have to watch Gigli now: the comedic potential that is just bursting from the seams of that trailer is somewhat over-[well, under]-whelming...
[idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot.]
That being said, I'll probably find it somewhat ok.
The trailer for The Warriors seems pretty interesting: gotta love stylised early 80s/late 70s style movies.
Yeah...look how just watching the trailer has affected your mentality. You've posted the same thing twice. Save yourself, burn the movie now.
Argh, that's the second time I've done that tonight... Damn thing... it's too damn early in the morning [2:40am] for me to be doing this: my mind is way to vulnerable to that damn Gigli film, and now I'm repeating myself like a crazy person...
Methinks I have an itchy posting finger...
I"m so excited for you Dean. : ) This one will seep right into your very bones. It will stay with you forever forever forever forever. Uh, watch out for that yoga scene.
See? Look what it's done to poor Scott. Once, he was a valuable member of this group but now he is just a blithering idiot. The movie has affected him deeply. I miss Scott :(
The only one I've seen, then only the opening scenes, is "Get Carter," but from that I can tell it's a heck of a movie.
One of the most realistic films yet made about the British criminal, it is the favorite film of the British criminal, because--unlike most films about them--it doesn't make them look like buffoons.
Just be aware, that there are--supposedly--no likable characters in the film. Even likable Michael Caine comes off as being unlikable in it.

My head hurts... What an end to the weekend... At least I'll watch The Machinist tonight before bed. Will post more later!
Hmmm...could I assume you actually watched Gigli? I tried to save you...
Oh my............what has happened?

Nothing, nothing at all. How are you today? I'm quite fine. No, I don't know why Ben Affleck has such a crappy accent... no I don't know why my eyes and brain hurt so much. I really don't...
You know, all things considered, I'm surprised that I'm thinking there was a small somewhat meagre amount of potential for Gigli. But of course, that line of thinking is a sign of madness I think.
At least with crappy Ed Wood films you can laugh at the poor effects, and therefore it's fun. With Gigli, there is no place to hide from poor acting, scripting and a generally stupid film. It's not like the actors are even that bad; even Affleck has his moments, though is by far the worst one of the group with his stupid accent. The script and 'hilarious'/'sexy' moments just completely fail to hit the right mark, and there is a lot of pointlessness in this film.
Ah well... we live, we love, we learn, we watch, we bleed from our ears and eyes...

That sounds like a form a stigmata Dean................Gigli seems to have given you a religious experience. Oh my, I'm so excited for you. I'd better go back for a repeat viewing of this film.
