This one has been bugging me for years now, but I just never think to post about it.
I remember seeing the film in the late 80s/early 90s on HBO. It was about a teenage boy who was poor if I'm not mistaken. He is constantly bullied at school, and I clearly remember a scene of him being yelled at by a bully and being called a "p***y".
Now I know this sounds like a normal film but.....
A government train, I believe it was, had crashed and it's cargo was spread around the site. Somehow the boy gets a laser gun of some sort. If I'm not mistaken, he kills his father who was abusive. I seem to remember someone finding the father's body all charred and burnt.
The boy escapes with either a few friends or his girlfriend, and there is a "dramatic" scene in which he goes into a speech about aliens and begins to blast the gun into the sky.
That's all I can remember. I know it's not much to go on, but I have faith in you guys. Any help or info on this one would be much appreciated.
I haven't seen it, but it sounds a bit like the description for Laserblast. The IMDB account of the movie is here (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0077834/).
Nope, not Laserblast. It seems, from the reviews I read atleast, that the kid in Laserblast begins to mutate after finding the weapon.
If I remember correctly, there were no aliens in the film I'm thinking of, just the kid wishing that there were aliens that would take him away. Also, he didn't mutate.....although my memory might be wrong.
I dunno this sounds real close to what you were talking about. I think I seen this too, and from what I remember it should be the one. I am not 100% sure though.
Yeah, it does sound quite a bit like Laserblast, but I just don't see that being the film. I really don't remember the film being that old. I'm thinking mid to late 80s for it being made. It certainly wasn't anything that was "MST3K" worthy. It wasn't high quality, but not bottom of the barrel stuff.

hmmm, I could have sworn that was it. oh, well I will keep an eye out for ya.
Thanks Thad. I'm going to see about renting Laserblast at some point to see just if that was the flick.
That would be Deadly Weapon (1989), a variation on Laserblast also produced by Charles Band.
Nate......you my friend are amazing.
Yep, that's the flick. I knew that I had seen it sometime around 90-91 or so.
Now my only problem is trying to track down a copy.
Thanks for the help everyone!
