Title: Jericho gets the axe
Post by: trekgeezer on May 16, 2007, 07:56:35 AM
The cliffhanger ending which left Jericho at war with a neighboring town, Mayor Green (Gerald McRaney) died in the first skirmish, and the army is coming.

They're blaming it on the long hiatus the show took.

Here's the story along with some other cancellations.

Wow, heard the second half was very good. I just didn't want to make it a point to tune in at 8pm Wednesdays.

I can still see it "on demand" through Comcast and perhaps the network has put all the episodes up online, but maybe now they have taken them down.

Reading that article made me really wonder what in the WORLD is going on at CBS.  They cut "Jericho" like it's some sort of no-brainer, but wring hands over "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (a truly awful, horrible waste of the universe's energy) and renwe 'How I Met Your Mother."  While the latter is not, imo, as bad as "Christine," it still lacks the intelligence that "Jericho" at least tried to have.

Don't get me wrong, "Jericho" was FULL of plot holes and implausibilities.  But it was fun to watch and wonder about.  The big draw to me was the always twisting issue of whether Hawkins was a good guy or not, and we'll never know for sure.  Oh well.

I almost laughed out loud when I read that the CBS execs want to move in a more risky direction, then in the same article that they are keeping HIMYM and NAOOC was debated.  They don't want risky.  They want formulaic contemporary sit-coms that are safe bets - as long as they get a few headliner actors to draw audience geared toward name-recognition.

Oh well.  CBS axes another pretty cool (not great, not earth shatteringly wonderful, but fun) show, just like they did "The Agency."  Any takers on bets we'll see Yet Another CSI Clone next fall?

I can't believe that some of you actually watch CBS.

In the last 2 years, I think I've tuned to CBS maybe 2 or 3 times.
(no joke)

I immediately switched it when I realized it was CBS.

Except for "Criminal Minds" (a VERY good show most of the time), "Jericho", "Numbers" and my wife occasionally likes "The Amazing Race," we don't watch CBS.  None of these are must-sees, of course (no TV is at our house), but if we've nothing better to do and flip the tube on, these shows are/were not too bad.

Keep in mind, we don't have cable.  We get ABC (pretty much never watch it), NBC (like Earl and The Office and Medium is pretty cool), CBS, PBS and Fox (most watched I guess).

Netflix and movies we own are the preferred viewing, but sometimes we only have 30 minutes or so to waste in front of the TV and we like to watch movies in one sitting.  In general, though, it stays off FAR more than on anyway.

Personally, I'm not too sad about Jericho going.  If you look at the posts on here when Jericho first aired, then you'll see that I rather liked the show.  After the hiatus...not so much.  When it was coming on week after week then I was enjoying it quite a bit.  If I'm not mistaken the first episode back from the hiatus was a prequel episode to the pilot showing everything that had happened in the days before the bombing.  I didn't care for the episode and felt it was a bit out of place in the season.  I tried watching a few episodes after that but none of them held my interest/attention like the first few episodes.

Now my parents, they are avid Jericho fans.  I'm sure they'll be sad at it's cancellation.

As for CBS, they have some good shows.  As Ulthar mentioned, Numbers (I shall never write it with a 3) and Criminal Minds are pretty good shows on the average.  I think the latter is good due mainly to Mandy Patinkin who is great throughout.

Skaboi, it was the same with me. I watched the show faithfully up to the hiatus, but once it came back I just couldn't get into it again. Maybe in another year or so I can catch the episodes I missed when the series pops up on the scfi channel.

I don't watch hardly any TV at all, so they could cancel everything as far as I'm concerned.  :teddyr:
