Twisted Sister: Love is For Suckers (1987)
This album is not a bang-on-your-locker good time!

Yes, Twisted Sister wasn't really all that great, but for some reason, as a pre-teen in the age of early Empty-V, I thought they were the bomb with their first 3 albums (Under the Blade, You Can't Stop Rock'n'Roll, and Stay Hungry) and their over-the-top rock videos.

Then they released the pathetic Come Out And Play album, which was a rolling pile of poo, even to my Fourth Grade mentality.  With lackluster remakes such as "Leader of the Pack" and a strange version of "Be Cruel to Your School" with Alice Cooper, it died quickly on the charts and what fans they had soon dispersed (or grew up, whichever).

So, to follow up on that, they released the even more pathetic, fan-repelling, no-effort-at-all, "Love is For Suckers" - yeah Dee...that really brought the fans back.

I learned my lesson after purchasing Come Out and Play, but some relative or friend (can't remember) got me this album, "Love is For Suckers" and I think I played it a whole three times before I was bored to tears.  I think it was a precursor to the death of the hair metal genre as the writers, whomever they really were, were starting to run out of steam.

I thought about a song-by-song review but I don't feel like that kinda torture at the moment and none of the songs were memorable enough to warrant any kind of comment other than this: Dee, what happened?!  I remember distinctly when I tried to sell this album to the guy behind the counter at the 2nd time around record store - he wouldn't give me a nickel for it...all he would do is offer to throw it away for me...and I agreed that was the best course of action!

Lesson Learned: This album is for suckers (for those who actually bought it).

Stay tuned until next time when I break out some old Headbanger's Ball videos from the late 80s and review some real gems of bad video!

Wow, just stumbled upon this thread. I am Twisted Sister fan yes. I also love "Love Is For Suckers". I did think "Come Out & Play" was trash, but this album is so much better. It's not classsic TS, granted, but it has some really catchy hooks. "Hot Love" and "Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)" are totally awesome rockers.

I can't wait for the remastered/expanded edition of Stay Hungry that's coming out this summer.
