Title: The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Post by: AnubisVonMojo on June 13, 2008, 10:49:50 PM
Hey folks, saw the Hulk's latest celluloid excursion today and I've posted my review for it at the Tomb. For those interested, feel free to read the review (http://www.tombofanubis.com/Shorties/A/IncredibleHulk.html).

I read a review in the newspaper a while ago and the guy was mad because they didn't develop any characters, they were also mad because Ang Lee didn't show The Hulk that much and it focused too much on plot.  I think this will be better though.

Critics make me angry
They wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

There's a scene in the new movie that makes light of those classic words and still makes me laugh when I think about it right now.  :bouncegiggle:

I can't recommend this movie more highly, myself.  Loved the references to the tv show, including the little Bill Bixby 'cameo', the fact that Lou Ferigno not only shows up, but also does the voice of Hulk, and a few other things like the Jack McGee thing.  Don't know if I should mention that or not, but it doesn't really give away anything.

I always felt Ed Norton is underappreciated as an actor at times, and hopefully he'll get to make a few more installments of the Hulk.  Always was a fan of Tim Roth, so it was cool seeing him there too.

Much better than Ang Lee's Hulk, although I do appreciate his film and where he attempted to go with the character.  But this new Hulk felt a bit more in touch with the comic version.

I very much enjoyed this film and aI didn't mind Lee's version, this one was alot more fun overall and made me enjoy the Hulk more.  Much better nemesis in this one, and therefore I cared more about the adventures of the Hulk.

Norton is a great actor, a somewhat wierd choice for Banner, since one of the things I did like about the first one was Eric Bana, but still he did a good job.

Somewhat a very weedy Dr Jekyll to the Hulk's Mr Hyde.  In that manner very suitable a role I suppose.

Great scenery in Brazil too!  Worth seeing.

I just saw it today and I've got to say I was impressed.  The bar wasn't set that high by Hulk (2003) but this won surpassed by expectations.  The Hulk actually uses some fighting moves he's famous for in the comics.  Norton was great, as usual, as Banner.  I think he was a great choice for the role.

Yeah the Hulk and the Abomination were CGI but it was top-notch.  The story wasn't complicated by over-analyzation of the "science" or psychology behind the Hulk/Banner.  I think Iron Man was slightly better but not by much.  Speaking of which, the cameos by Robert Downey Jr., Lou Ferrigno, and Stan Lee were well done.

I can't wait to see what Marvel Studios does next.  (an actually good Captain American movie perhaps).

According to a few different sources it doesn't look like they'll have anything for next year thanks to last year's writers' strike. For 2010 they're currently aiming for Thor, Ant Man, and hopefully Iron Man 2. 2011 they want to get out Captain America, The Avengers, and possibly Incredible Hulk 2.

Captain America was origianlly in this movie.  In a cut scene, Banner goes to the Artic to kill himself, but the Hulk won't let him.  There he finds Captain (supposedly stuck in ice)
Rumors say the Captain America movie will be set during WW II.  This lead me to believe it ends with him being frozen and The Avengers movie they seem to be building up to will deal with his defrosting.

I was wondering what happened to the arctic scene they kept showing in the trailers... According to Letterier, I guess he had to hack something like 70 minutes out of the final cut of the movie. On the topic of Cap though, I read something the other day refering to Cap's shield showing up in Iron Man at some point?

Yep, when Stark is in his lab, developing and testing his suit, you can see the shield on a table in the background, though it seems the image may have been planted at the last minute.

Marvel studios intends to do, as new movie series, Captain America, Ant Man, and Thor, then they are teaming them up with Iron Man and The Hulk along with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury to do The Avengers.

Look for the directors cut of this on DVD.  Louis Leterrier, the director said they cut 70 minutes of what they filmed.  There was a little flap with Ed Norton over the final cut because he wanted a few more character moments in the film.  Norton actually rewrote a lot of the script, but I notice he is uncredited for it.

I don't know if Marvel has learned their lesson yet.  They have still not spoken to Jon Favreau about Iron Man 2. Seems the head of Marvel thinks that people will come to see it no matter who directs it.  That's a big thanks to Favreau for  making a movie that has brought in over  $500 million for Marvel and actually brought them some credibility.

They haven't talked to him yet?

I figured it'd be some time though, a few more months at least, before anything happens anyway.  I figure by the time it's on dvd, they'll announce he's returning to write/direct.

Awesome flick!
I plan on buying this when it comes out on DVD.  It was that good.

Edward Norton was great as Banner.  Much better than Bana in my opinion.  Not that Bana's a bad actor, he's not.  I just preferred Norton instead.

I loved the subtitle that would pop up periodically throughout the movie that read, "Days since last incident: 102". (meaning how many days since he last turned into the Hulk)
And that beeping heart rate monitor Banner wore on his wrist really helped to ratchet up the tension in the hectic scenes.

If you want to see HULK SMASH!!, then you'll definitely want to check this movie out.  Be sure to watch it on a good surround sound system as there are lots of loud smashes, thuds and bangs in it.
A great popcorn movie that I give 3.5 stars out of 4.
