Title: Space Sentinals (1977 cartoon)

Somewhere between the Superfriends, the Ambiguously Gay Duo, and Sealab 2020 is this funky 70's artifact.  Though the animation is primitive i'd give it high marks for overall look and feel, especially the incidental music which sounds like some sick german space rock.  On the downside,  the characters are not from comic books and thus don't have the compelling back stories of say Batman or Superman to reach back into.  It also suffers a bit from what you might call the "Casper Syndrome":  most of the episodes i saw had very similar plots about an evil person needing lots of power and the sentinals trying to take it away from them.  One review I read made the excellent point that there isn't enough violence.  Hom much fun would Tom and jerry be withuot violence?   Apparently cartoons had to follow FCC guidelines for violence or something if they had human like characters.

it's still a good cartoon though.  The best episode I saw was a VERY trippy one  called "wizard of Od"  where they follow this lucky charms leprechaun little guy back to his world where mythical creatures are real.  It's really pretty messed up.  If i could find it cheap i would buy it for my niece and nephew.
