DAM! It's Armegeddon put to music! It was my THEME in the mid-70's as a long hair fu#ck up in the 70's! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7ykEyZyiVk ...and I seen them AGAIN in 1990! GreaT both times! Title: Re: Your Top ten musical artists.... Post by: Jack on August 07, 2008, 07:20:02 AM 1) Dione Warwick - my folks had an 8-track of hers ("Walk on By" I think) when I was a little kid. I must have worn it out.
2) Black Sabbath - the first time I heard these guys I was standing outside a video arcade. Some guy had them playing on a boom box. It just floored me. 3) Led Zeppelin - If I had a dollar for every night me and my buddy spent smokin' dope and listening to Zeppelin :teddyr: They were actually the reason I started playing guitar. 4) Jimi Hendrix - great guitar playing and emotional songs. 5) Van Halen - before the were Van Hagar of course. 6) Metallica - I was listening to these guys years before anybody else had ever heard of them. I think I stopped listening to them a couple years before most people as well - saved me a lot of disappointment. 7) Dokken - If you're going to listen to hair metal, might as well listen to Dokken. Never cared for Don's lyrics, but George's guitar playing was more often than not magnificent. 8) Troy Stetina - Writes a ton of instructional books for guitar. I've got about half of them. A major influence on my playing, a great songwriter, and an all-around virtuoso player. 9) Journey - should probably put these guys higher on the list. C'mon, their music is just awesome! Very emotional, marvelously composed, performed with a level of skill and talent than most bands could only dream of. 10) Pat Benatar - Must have listened to all her early albums at least 50 times. Love her voice, love the songwriting, love the energy. Title: Re: Your Top ten musical artists.... Post by: Patient7 on August 07, 2008, 10:34:11 AM 1. Black Sabbath

But you add someone like Claude Debussy and I"m like "Who?" :question:Oh! BELA wanted videos! Here's some finds... if you notice a pattern, yeh, I like the piano. The great FATS WALLER twice because the first (2.45 minutes) tho' great, has too much LENA HORNE IN (the second clip is under 3 minutes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzynQ8LPyAMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in1eK3x1PBI&NR=1 To my own surprise, I found a lot of VLADO PERLEMUTER, the master, at youtube; as far as I've found almost nobody else could or now can play RAVEL's piano works. The first clip is under 4 minutes; the second one was hard to find and I'm slackjawed by it. Don't look at the "old man." Listen to what he plays (7 worthwhile minutes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6TFWsaf3g8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez1s9JCzvQg&feature=related JOSHUA RIFKIN recorded an important early album series of SCOTT JOPLIN piano rags, which I am very fond of and here is... someone... playing "Gladiolus Rag" (under 4 minutes). And JOSHUA RIFKIN playing and commentating on another piano style (10 minutes long and probably boring for most): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vryyE-ljJBs&feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzHXKS2Fz-w PIERRE MONTEUX is on youtube, but not conducting DEBUSSY, and for me they go hand in hand (like VLADO PERLEMUTER and MAURICE RAVEL). This last clip is probably DEBUSSY's best known tune "Clair de Lune" and is for listening only: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJPpWr_ayVU Title: Re: Your Top ten musical artists.... Winger Looking back, '80s metal was pretty interesting. As mentioned, I was more of a New Waver, but had a soft spot for the gender-bending metal acts of the early '80s, such as Ratt and Twisted Sister. Nowadays, the rivetheads and wavers find themselves in similar predicaments - that style of music is no longer around anymore, nor is it particularly revered, at least by newer generations, or am I wrong about that? Frank Zappa AC/DC Bloodhound Gang Marilyn Manson Weird Al (definitely the best at what HE does) MC Chris (Also the best at what HE does) Ozzy Osbourne Nine Inch Nails Motley Crue, , in their Shout/Theater of pain days I also have to cast an anti-vote for Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd, , IMO two of the most over-rated bands ever, along with Chicago. I agree with you about Pink Floyd and to an extent, Zeppelin. I have a ton of respect for Led Zep, but I have never been able to get into their music, just always got bored with 'em. Also, I nearly put Motley Crue on my list, because they were a big influence on me and the crazyness I pursued at 18. But at the end of the day, they are not a great band musically. (Peter Cetera solo, is better than Chicago) Title: Re: Your Top ten musical artists.... Post by: ghouck on August 12, 2008, 09:57:55 AM Motley Crue also is the epitome of the rich and famous getting away with murder. Vince Neil killed a passenger and seriously injured two others from DWI, and did 15 days in jail. I know of a person that was DWI and ran over a drunk woman laying in the road passed out and they got a number of years. Ozzy Osbourne said when the ytoured together even HE couldn't hang with their lifestyle. You're right, as musicians they kinda suck, , Mick Mars IMO is the only one with true talent.

Oh yeah, Mick deserves alot of credit, I don't have any respect for Motley any more now that they tour with Papa Roach & Buckcherry. Also, I was outraged when they released a box set called: "Music to crash your car to", total slap in the face for Hanoi and those victims. Title: Re: Your Top ten musical artists.... for example, this track doesnt really have any musical 'merit' but I listen to it all the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YbVQ512Lg0  and then you've got someone like Miles Davis who is a true pioneer and a genius, but I just can't listen to his music for more than 20 seconds without wanting to turn it off! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTfBpKzu6XA  Title: Re: Your Top ten musical artists....
