Title: SILENT HILL (2006): plot summary
Post by: Rev. Powell on September 15, 2008, 02:30:10 PM
WARNING: CONTAINS NOTHING BUT SPOILERS.  If you don't want to know the shocking secret of SILENT HILL, stop reading now.

When an adorable little moppet can't stop muttering "Silent Hill" while she's sleepwalking her way across the busy interstate to the giant cliff out behind their house, her hot mom decides that, instead of moving to a safer neighborhood, she'll to take her to the ghost town of the same name where there's been an underground coal fire burning for the past thirty years and is constantly raining down ash so that it's almost a half-centimeter thick by now.  After leading a hot cop on a high speed chase after a routine traffic stop because she suddenly saw the exit ramp, hot mom crashes her minivan and the girl wanders off.  So hot Mom goes to find her but she hears an air raid siren and runs into some lava zombies instead, which makes her fall asleep and wake up back at the entrance to Silent Hill.  Then the hot cop in her skintight leather hip-huggers shows up and handcuffs her and shoots a zombie, but hot mom runs away and finds a school where she chases a shadowy figure who runs into a bathroom stall and turns into a corpse with a clue in its mouth while some guys in full body miner suits try to break down the door she's locked herself in but run away when a chicken in a cage starts squawking.

Then the plot kind of loses focus for a while as zombies and a Pyramid-head demon chase her around some underground lair for a while until the hot cop shows up and drags her into a mineshaft elevator so that she can step on a cockroach demon while Pyramid-head tries to break down the door.  Meanwhile, back on planet Earth, the local cops won't help her husband so he has to break into the local records office and hassle a nun at an orphanage until the local subplot cop lectures him about justice and shows him scars on his palms and leads him to the edge of town and then they both basically disappear from the movie.  Then the director suddenly locates the plot again and hot mom goes to room 111 and hops over some girders until she finds the little demon girl Alessa who looks just like her baby girl only she keeps burns up to a cinder.  Then the Darkness Comes and they meet the local Pentecostal cultists and do to a revival meeting where they read from the book of Revelations, and then the cult leader decides to let hot mom go talk to the demon who can tell her where her little girl went.  Then hot cop kicks some cultist butt with her baton for a while until they kick her butt instead while hot mom wanders past some blind zombies and when she bumps one by accident they start slicing each other up.

Then the screen goes white and a voiceover starts explaining the plot.  The girl who looks like hot mom's daughter is actually the dark part of Alessa, and maybe this blind nurse they suddenly put into the movie is also Alessa, and this little burned girl is also Alessa after the cultists burned her up for being a witch earlier, and hot mom's daughter is the good part of Alessa they sent to an orphanage, and they never said who Pyramid-head was that I could tell but I guess she's the part of Alessa that's cranky after you wake her up early from her afternoon nap.  So then the bad part of Alessa has to sneak inside hot mom so she can take her into the church where they just burned hot cop on a ladder for being a witch so hot mom can lecture them on the dangers of religious fundamentalism and get stabbed by the cult leader so she can bleed out the bad part of Alessa so she can rise up from the ground in her hospital bed and use her hundreds of barbed wire tentacles to turn the cult into raspberry jello.  Then hot mom and her daughter turn into ghosts.

Roger Avary wrote the script during a bad acid trip, which explains lines like "Now the dream of this life must end, and so must the dreamers within it."  4/5 stars.

HAHAHA  :teddyr: "Hot mom" Rev, I can't read this without cracking up (I am stupedously drunk tho').

This film is awful, so far removed from the game. Polished, popcorn, and cheap loud-scares. Yet another film that should have been made ten years ago when the game first came out.

Good summary (Hooray for spellcheck!)

Seen the film once, it was OK.  Not the best movie I have ever seen, but actually the first movie I have seen that was a based off a video game (I seen Pokemon movies, but those were based off the anime rather than the game).  The ending was really confusing to me and I had to look it up online just to understand what happened at the end.  That's never good for any film in my book.  Also, the side story with Dad felt weird and unnecessary.

On the plus side, the monsters in the film looked amazing.  Pyramid Head, my favorite monster from Silent Hill, didn't have many scenes liked I hope he would.  The acting was OK, but I swear at one point I saw a cameraman or a person that shouldn't be standing there in the film!  Overall, a good movie.  I give a 3 star or slime rating.  The not the best movie ever, but in terms of video game adaption, it was pretty good compared to a lot of adaptations.  Now I wait for my next video game movie, which I hope is Bioshock (Man, I hope it is good!).

Never played the video game, but I loved the movie.  I started a thread on it earlier this summer.  Very surrealistically creepy . . . .

I actually just saw the film for the first time yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I never played much Slient Hill so maybe that's why. The Mom was hot though.

The town was inspired by Centralia, Pennsylvania, of which, there is nothing left but a time capsule scheduled to be opened in

Thought this film was so underrated. I'm a huge fan of the games and loved the movie.

I actually thought the cop was hotter than the mom.

Same here! That was Laurie Holden pre-WALKING DEAD...she looked great in that uniform.
