Title: Ewe Boll is a blight.
Post by: monkeymomma on February 16, 2009, 06:36:35 AM
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.  I watched this craptacular film last night on Encore or The Movie Channel or something like that.  I enjoyed the ninjas that appeared out of nowhere during the battle in the forest.  Other than that, I squirmed at the mishmash of accents and the whole Ray Liotta and Matthew Lillard as bad guys.  My son walked in and thought it was a comedy bit or something.

I haven't seen this one but I should probably take it on one day.  Anyone notice how Ewe is the master of the miscast amongst other things?

He's going to be making another film in South Africa called Janjaweed about the Sudan fighters.

www.imdb.com/title/tt1236471 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1236471)

Which will have lots of fast-paced music and spinning camera shots at the Sudanese fire their weapons.  Won't that be just peachy?

I smell another Ewe disaster Andrew ~ I don't know where he'll find a desert in Cape Town.

As soon as Boll announces another film I smell that.

You know, I constantly find that what I type in haste (just to get the post done before I am distracted) makes me sound like a moron.  Right now Jenna and Garrett are running through the house playing a game that requires lots of yelling and laughing.  It is, to say the least, bad for my proofreading skills.

I've seen quite a few atrocities from ASYLUM but am not sure I've ever seen a Ewe Boll movie.  I know they are supposed to be horrible but I find it difficul to imagine anything worse than a movie like DRAGON (http://sites.google.com/site/miseenscenecrypt/reviews/dragon).

Surely DUNGEON SEIGE isn't worse than that?

First let me say... I'M NOT WORTHY!!!  Andrew replied to my first post on Badmovies...  I may have to be your stalker now.  Could you move to Florida soon, that commute is gonna be a killer.

I had heard that Uwe Boll was an awful "film maker", but I had no idea.  Until the credits ran at the end of the movie, I didn't know who to blame for the movie.  He produced and wrote this craptaular cinema gem.

Burt Reynolds was the King, Ray Liotta was the bad wizard, LeeLee Sobiesky was the good wizard's daughter/the bad wizard's booty call, Matthew Lillard was the King's smarmy nephew, and the dwarf guy from LOTR was the King's wizard.

This Morning I got up and Googled him.  Then the light bulb over my head clicked on.  The movie wasn't even entertaining in it's badness... it was just bad.  I was sucked in by recognizable names and stayed to watch the train wreck that followed.  Plus it was a Sunday night and there was nothing else on TV.

In my defense it was only $1.

I suspected it would be bad but I had no idea how bad.

Uwe Boll is not that bad a director.  His movies are hilarious.

I agree: ITNOTK is a hoot!

IMO Boll should turn his hand to comedy.

He's actually seems like quite an intelligent guy.  He has some really good things to say.

Seems like someone who loves what he's doing.  Shame his movies aren't as good as he thinks they are.

There's a saying on the street: "Don't hate the playa, hate da game."

I always thought it was a crock and still do, but in this case, may, just maybe, it is legit. If studios wouldn't agree to his brand of crap with the thought that video game based movies will make a profit, the world might be spared. But then, who is the playa and who is da game? People keep watching his crap, so he keeps making movies. So who is really to blame?

My theory has always been: If no one played "da game", there would be no "game" to play. And the violent and militant side of me always thought: If you eliminate the "playas", it would make "da game" a lot less appealing. Not that I'm advocating violence towards film executives, Ewe Boll or the masochists who watch his crap.

Ooh, there's a bad movie waiting to happen. A film fan sets out to personally "eliminate" all the fans of a director he/she hates. Ooh, it would make a good "stalk-and-kill" video game.  Ooh, ooh, Ewe Boll could make a film based on it....right back where we started.

And it's pronounced oova.    I think I posted a video once of him b***hing about the proper pronunciation of his name.

I kept thinking it was spelled Uwe, but didn't want Firefox to remember that I looked him up on imdb.com, so I went with the spelling on the thread. Although, Ewe is workable as his films are "baaaaaaaaaaad".   :bouncegiggle:

I was thinking more along the lines of "eeeew".

I've been terribly short on free time lately.  Can we put off the stalking for a few years?  Then the whole deal is not a problem - messages spray painted on trees, pet rabbit in a pot, etc.

I will say that Boll's films are better than the crud cranked out by studios like Asylum and Nu Image.  Those are usually so cookie-cutter that I get upset with the movies within the first ten minutes.  I just wish that Uwe would correctly name his films.  "House of the Dead" should been "Zombie Island Rave Massacre."

I've never minded Oo-vah, House of the Dead was comically inept and quite a fun movie.  Bloodrayne wasn't really that terrible, but then there's Alone in the Dark, still shaking my head over that one.  Haven't seen all his stuff, but I'm always sort of interested in what sort of nonsense he's turned out.  And all his interviews are positively hysterical  :teddyr:

I like the Asylum too.  They certainly make some putrid rubbish, and have no qualms about taking $500 student films and sticking some professional looking cover art on them and passing them off as real movies.  And they certainly turn out some stuff that even the Sci-Fi Channel must find questionable as far as quality.  But a lot of their stuff is just fun, brainless, entertaining low budget junk.

He made 1968 Tunnel Rats and Darfur here: not schlocky at all, especially Darfur which made me cry.

I went with some friends to see Dungeon Siege.  I remember calling it the most average movie I've seen in a long time.  There was nothing horrible about it that could have been entertaining, but there was nothing good either.  It just existed.

I have heard nothing but horrible things about Uwe Boll's movies.  I've avoided all but one: "Postal" with Dave Foley.

It's actually quite good.

I will avoid the other films if his name is attached...

I've never seen any of his movies besides House Of The Dead.  Besides all the video game BS that was shoehorned in, I actually sort of enjoyed it.  But, that's mostly just because I like zombie movies.  Given his reputation, I won't be bothering with any of his other movies, though.
