Title: KXNO employees get in trouble.
Post by: sprite75 on March 24, 2009, 10:45:42 AM
Marty Tirrell and Larry Cotlar - broadcasters at Des Moines area station KXNO - got in a bit of trouble (http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20090323/SPORTS/90323012) recently.  Those two got into an F bomb laced "discussion" during a commercial break when they thought they were off the air.  Problem was they weren't off the air.

Somehow a switch got thrown so their microphones were live.  Any one in the area who happened to be listening got to hear their F and other word salad in the background while commercials were playing.  I found a YouTube clip with audio (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5flN0yJJ4U) of their little disagreement.  It's not bleeped out, so it's NSFW.

I used to work in radio as a DJ and it can/does happen where the mic is live by mistake without the DJ knowing.  You can only hope you keep your mouth shut during it.   Looks like these guys didn't realize it.   Through my experience, the broadcast world is filled with potty mouths.  Too bad it got over the air.

In 25 years of working I've never heard anyone talk to a coworker like that.  In 25 years of going out to the bar with people I work with I've never heard anyone talk to a coworker like that.  That guy should be out on his a$$.  What is he, in 9th grade or something?

All three employees got canned by the radio station.
