Title: Last game you bought?/Post newly purchased games here...
Post by: Joe the Destroyer on August 31, 2009, 04:52:57 AM
Eh, there's one for movies, there's one for albums, why not one for games?

Of course, this only opens the door for one for books.

My last ones were just Wii downloads.

I picked up Batman: Arkham Asylum for the Xbox 360 the other day.

(http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8647/batmanbox3601e9c44f.jpg) (http://img215.imageshack.us/i/batmanbox3601e9c44f.jpg/)

I'm not a huge Batman fan, but this game kicks ass!
I've been playing it for 5 days straight.  It's totally addicting.

I also purchased Shadow Complex from the Xbox Live Arcade.

(http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4813/shadowcomplex1eb6f4f.jpg) (http://img90.imageshack.us/i/shadowcomplex1eb6f4f.jpg/)

If you played and enjoyed the old side scrollers of the 80's and 90's like Metroid or Castlevania, you'll love Shadow Complex.
You're basically this ordinary guy who's cave exploring with a girl you just met when you stumble upon a huge evil underground organization called The Restoration.
You start with only a flashlight and then progress to high tech weaponry.
It costs about $15 and is totally worth it.
This game is awesome!     So addicting that I beat it in 2 days.

Check out Giant Bomb's review: (be sure to watch the video review)

My fiancee and I downloaded some more stuff on the Wii:

Secret of Mana
Shining Force 1 and 2
Tetris Party
Something and pop... Same Game or some crap like that.  It's a decent, cheap puzzle game, and that's all that matters.

Is this games we bought new? Or can they be used?

I haven't paid for a new game in God only knows how long.  For starters, I'm too poor, and plus my computer's too old to run most of the new stuff anyway (and video game systems?  Forget it, I don't have the money for those either.)

They can be used, just as long as you in some way acquired a new game.

I recently downloaded:

Strange thing.  It sounds like a feminine product, and doesn't really have much of a challenge factor, but the game is extremely relaxing.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3.  Downloaded the free demo today and absolutely loved it.  Two of my favorite games of all time are Fear Effect 2:  Retro Helix (PS1) and the Onimusha series (PS2).  This game has environments very similar to Fear Effect, and of course gameplay similar to Onimusha - it's just that this game looks 1,000 times better.  Oh, and then you've got incredibly awesome babes, and the unique motion-control feature of this version  :teddyr:

Heard about this a while ago and waited for it to come out.  Brutal game that will slaughter you in a heartbeat if you aren't careful and focused, but you feel great when, after dying many, many times, you wade through enemies who tormented you earlier.  Loads of fun.

Hey Burgo, how is Descent?  My little group have thought about picking that one up.  It's just so expensive and we're not sure we'd get enough playtime to warrant the cost.

I bought New Super Mario Bros. Wii the day it came out.  Haven't quite finished it, but getting close.  It's very fun, and quite challenging.  The latter was a welcome change after the DS version, which was too easy.  My only complaint is I feel the waggle control for spinning/propeller flying doesn't feel right in combination with digital controls.  I think they should have just made it so if you were in the air and hit jump again, you'd spin/propeller up.  Or something like that.  Not game breaking, just annoying at times.

Or, for that matter, let us use the classic controller and dedicate the spin stuff to its own button, like in Super Mario World.

DESCENT appears to be pretty impressive . . . I haven't been able to get into full-blown games yet . . . just sort of tinkering around with the components while making sure I understand the instructions.  I'm hoping to invite my nephews over soon so we can give it a try.

It comes in a huge, heavy box and is full of very nice cards and pieces.  One player runs the dungeon and all the monsters, the other player(s) control the heroes.  The game comes with a book of scenarios (dungeon set ups showing where the monsters, treasure, and other stuff should be placed . . . plus a story line for each scenario).  You can also create your own adventures.  The game comes with various dungeon sections that fit together like puzzle pieces, plus stairways, doors, and other stuff that allows you to make an almost unlimited number of combinations . . . so it's very replayable.  You can find a lot of information and pictures here: www.boardgamegeek.com

Just ordered this from some guy on Amazon - brand new for $2.00 + $3.99 shipping  :buggedout:  It's a freakin' $50.00 game!  I wonder if I'll even get it.  It's a "just launched" seller with no previous feedback.  Maybe he just listed the wrong price?  LOL, guess I'll find out.  For six bucks, I figured what the heck.  Could be one hell of a deal.

EDIT:  Ah, the jerk cancelled my order  :hatred:

I don't know what was up with that guy - minutes after he cancelled my order I saw it listed again for $2.00, but under another "just launched" seller's name.  I e-mailed Amazon to see what the heck was going on (he's obviously not interested in actually selling it at that price).  Now I see the new listing is gone.  Who knows.  Some screwball.

Got Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, since I loved GT4 and GT5 Prologue.  Also ordered Ford Racing 3 for the PS2.  I don't know what that will be like, some reviews say it pretty much sucks, others say it's a pretty good game.  Oh well, it was only a penny - which isn't anything special as there are quite a few copies available for under a dollar.  :teddyr:

I bought Sacrifice for PC for $1.50 at a Goodwill.  Great shape, but only has the jewel case and disc, no box/instructions.  Haven't gotten around to playing it yet, as I have to beat Bioshock and then Dragon Age first.  Also, I bought a cassette adapter at the Goodwill which came broken.  And I damaged it trying to take it apart to fix it, so I can't return it.   :hatred:  Oh well, it was only $5.  I like to think I just spent $6.50 for Sacrifice.

Power Rangers: Super Legends- for the PS2.  A bit of a nerdy game, yes.  Bascially, it celebrates the past 17 years or so of the Ranger franchise, featuring a storyline where one of the past defeated villains, long thought to now be good, switches back to evil, trying to destroy the timeline.  So different members of the various Ranger teams, from the original "Mighty Morphin" team from '93 unitl recent ones seen now have to team up to defeat the various villains...

New Super Mario Bros. Wii for the Nintendo Wii...definitely worth it, a great addition to the Mario series...

WHOA!  Someone made a brand NEW NES game?  That just blows my mind, and yet, I wonder why it took so long (that is, for someone to actually do this.)

Looks pretty awesome (although I can't help but think it bears more than a passing resemblance to Mega Man, but that's probably intentional).

Course, I don't have a working NES machine to even play this one...

:)

It takes inspiration largely from Mega Man, Metroid-style games, and especially I Wanna Be The Guy (itself an exaggeration of Nintendo-hard platformers).

Here's a clip of I Wanna Be The Guy.  You might notice the similarity in the look of the lead character.  Well, except for the video's quality.

I played more Battle Kid.  Beat the fourth boss, which means I'm something like halfway through the game.  By my estimate, I've played it for 4-5 hours.

You know, I haven't bought any new games in quite awhile, but with my computer being upgraded, I'm finally able to play The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion without it locking up.  I've been obsessed with that game lately, playing it with the Oblivion Overhaul and some other mods going.

I love the game a lot, but sometimes certain things in the character AI produced some interesting WTF moments.  For instance, in one town I was walking down the street and saw a woman lying DEAD right in the middle of the road and NO ONE seemed to pay any attention to it.  I dunno how it happened, but no one seemed to care.  But, Heaven forbid, if MY character stabs someone, the town guard and God who else shows up to fight me.

Just picked that up myself!  Looks fun.  You get the movie Teenagers From Outer Space as an unlockable item on the disk too.

Just played Modern Warfare 2 for about an hour.  This weekend the multiplayer component is free on steam.  It's fun and has some good ideas, and is also completely ludicrous - semi-realistic weapons handling, but you've got maniacs running around knifing everyone, guys dual wielding pistols, etc.

I also find the "extra" kills very annoying - like the sentry guns, the helicopters, and the rockets from the sky.  I'm getting a handle on the game via free for all deathmatch, and I'd guess these bits would be less annoying in team games though.

Regardless, I like it, but at this point not enough to buy it.

Give yourself some time. It may become an obsession. I know I miss it when I go a day or two without playing it. There no greater feeling than being charged by some "blademaster" and either knocking him down with a headshot or knifing his butt into next week. Or, better yet, sneaking up behind someone in the game and putting a round in the back of their head and they have no clue you are there.

Ah yes.  I have that game as well.  It is very good in gameplay and the visuals.  The setting is pretty good, but the world's are kind of bland and the story is average at best.  Sadly, it has the biggest cop-out and cheapest ending I have ever seen.  You will be disappointed.

Currently, I have bought The Conduit for the Wii.  It's pretty good and the controls are great.  I have some trouble throwing grenades though and some areas are mind blowingly difficult.

Yeah, I'm kind of waiting to get another HDTV in the bedroom (where my PS2 is) before I start playing it because I read that the graphics were terrific.  The gameplay sounded really good as well, a bit like FF XII, which I loved.  I've just started getting interested in RPG games.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 I bought a week or two ago.  I finally got around to playing it.  It's great.  In particular I have to give them credit for the 3D version of Yoshi, which works much better than I thought it would.  They've also clearly tried to fix what many perceived as short comings of the original game - my biggest complaint was too much of the game was too easy.  And I've already been challenged a couple times quite well.  The level where you spin to flip up or down platforms (bonus level, basically) was challenging in just the right way and quite a bit of fun.  Good stuff.

WWF War Zone- an old PlayStation 1 game from around 1998.  The roster is a little limited, featuring only about 16 of the WWF's mid-level and main event wrestlers: HHH, Shawn Michaels, Mosh, Thrasher, Ahmed Johnson, Mankind, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Bret Hart, Ken Shamrock, Kane, Undertaker, British Bulldog, Goldust, and Farooq.

But they have 30 create-a-wrestler spots open, so you can have about 46 wrestlers in the game.  I used to love the game, but never owned it myself, my cousin did.  So I found it cheap, around $2.99 plus tax.  And it completes my collection of wrestling games.

I ordered Project Eden for the PS2 for about 5 bucks.  It sounds kind of cool, you control four different characters who each have a unique skill, and you use those skills in combination to solve various puzzles and stuff.  It's supposed to be kind of atmospheric as well.

I like it very much.  Maybe not quite as much as Blazing Star or Pulstar but they weren't on Ebay at the time.
Games I would recommend (ignore if you have them):

Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move
Neo Turf Masters
Waku Waku 7
Fatal Fury Special
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
Art Of Fighting 2
Viewpoint
Metal Slug X
Neo Bomberman
Last Resort
Over Top
World Heroes Perfect
Samurai Shodown 2

Mine is a 4-slot.  Scored it for $800 a few years ago with 5 games.

I bought Dragon Quest IX on Monday, the day it came out.  I don't do that often with video games.   Anyways, it is pretty darn good RPG.  I love the fact that the hero and party's clothing changes as you add and remove armor and weapons.  I'm about 20 hours in and most of that is level grinding and Side-Quests.  I think I'm almost a third of the way done, but I doubt it.  This is going to be a long epic.

My next game is going to be Command and Conquer 3: Red Alert.  I've been putting off buying it but after two hack-and-slash adventure games.  I'll be in the mood for something different.  I especially love all the b-list celebrities that do the full motion videos.  That's one of the real selling points for me.

Let me know how Alone was, I've been thinking of purchasing that.

Sadly, the latest Alone game, while it looks cool and has a seemingly kickass plot line, I'm told it really sucked balls.  :(

I remember playing the first two Alone games a lot years ago when I first got a computer with a CD-ROM.  I had a lot of fun with them, even if the characters did kind of look extras from the "Money for Nothing" video.  :)

New Castlevania is coming out. It looks really great and has boss fights that are supposed to resemble Shadow of the Colossus. Not sure how much but still looking forward to it.

I have been playing Borderlands on the PS3 rather religiously after having a...well, emotional breakdown after 5 months of mostly non-stop Modern Warfare 2 multi-player. You know it's time to stop playing a game when you start crying because of all the people getting killed in a game, but you keep killing them.

Yup, medications can be useful at times like that, but putting the game on the shelf works even better.

But I love Borderlands weapon-generation system that can allow for up to 17,000,000 variations. And getting a sniper rifle with 2.4 zoom and a base damage of 364 points with 200% critical damage modifiers...it warms the heart to see some poor soul basically explode when you land a solid head shot.

And, yes, I understand the conflicting information in this post. But Borderlands doesn't even try to appear realistic. And it's all monsters and bad guys, so...they deserve to have me shoot them. There, I said it.

NBA Jam---Boomshakalaka! Great game.  Glad they did a newer one for the Wii...which is what I've been playing.

Sweet, love Borderlands though on the XBOX 360, now.  I used to be on the PS3.  Sold it though can't remember why.  Think it was for some disk trouble and they didn't have a replacement.  Anyway, never did the download content and am starting in on them with the 360 version.  I was rather overwhelmed by the fact you can't bring  a low level character into the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned.  It also has its own twisted sense of humor.  The archaeologist chick being at the top of my list or some of the claptraps ("I just pooped in the spot you're standing on.")

Call of Duty from Treyarch, Zombies the crack cocaine of video games.  Have you tried the old text adventure Zork yet?  I used to enjoy them back in the day though I dislike the interface that seems like you are a person playing a person playing Zork.

Boderlands is still on my '360's hard drive, but I gave it up because it took too long.  I may get a copy of it when it goes down a bit more in price.  It was a very good looking game and one with a load of action to it.

Right now I recently finished Risen and what a P.O.S. that was. Graphic crashes just before the end fight with the Fire Titan, and load times and what-have-you from the old days of graphics.  No excuse for a game like this on a system like the '360 or PS3.
It had the potential to rank right up there with Oblivion.

Thank God I rented Risen thru Gamefly and that I didn't BUY it!

It is something that can get long and tedious at times.  It is good to focus on the little things.

Speaking of which, Oblivion remains enjoyable to go through multiple times.  Which I have become increasingly curious as Bethesda is supposed to be working on the 5th installment of the Elder Scrolls series.  Where will they take us to next?  What will be the new introduction?  I'm also curious if they will go into a deeper description of the Aeylids and their eventual overthrow by the Empire.  I think the past is becoming rather rich and a visit to that period would be quite captivating.

I haven't technically played Zork on it yet. Just entered the zork code for the achievement. My friend said he got pretty far in it.

Did some fine downloading yesterday.  Picked up Mount and Blade off Steam for a mere $4, plus downloaded Adventures of Lolo 2 (NES), Ninja Gaiden II (NES), and King of the Monsters (NeoGeo) off Virtual Console.

I won't tell you what chapter,  because I don't wanna ruin it for you, but in Oblivion, you actually get to see a pristine and untouched Ayleid city back in the Age Of Myth when you travel to The Dawn of Tamriel's existence.

The city is called Carac Agailor, and it's the home of an Ayleid Daedra worshipper named Mankor Camoran. It was an incredible sight for a game.

The next installment of The Elder Scrolls is ES 5: Skyrim. It focuses more on the Nordic lands of Skyrim, and Game Informer magazine has had a GREAT series of running articles about the game and some screenshots.  I KNOW it's gonna be awesome!

My friend, I LOVE the Sim City series. Insane amounts of time have passed me in one sitting of Sim City 3000 Unlimited. Sim City is deceptively addictive.

Watching your residential, commercial and industrial squares turn into houses, factories, and storefronts is very rewarding. So is the income you get from them, lol.

The real grabber is you can design any sort of city you want. The sky is the limit as you can lay a city out to your heart's content.

And then you have the hilarious ticker tape messages on the bottom of the screen in Sim City 3. All in all, it's a lot of fun and as I said, deceptively addictive.

Pre-ordered Rage the other day.  It's not coming out until September, but it looks fun.

Dead Space Extration: Had it for an hour the other day and had to return it after it started glitching out. :bluesad:  Luckily, I returned and got another game of equal value...

Okami: Has probably the longest opening cutscene in any video game I ever saw, but it was all worth it.  The story is very well done, the controls are spot on, the graphics are beautiful, the humor was silly, and I love the fact that you kill enemies using your artisitic abilites!  You guys have to play this game!

Pre-ordered this, coming out at the end of this month:

Haven't played a good dungeon crawler in quite a while.  There are tons of these medieval action/RPG games, but the environments in this one look a whole lot better than most.  And supposedly the characters are really well done - Lucy Lawless even voices one of them.

Keeping my fingers crossed   :teddyr:

Pre-ordered Dead Island, I guess you play as several different people on a tropical island in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse  :teddyr:  I like the atmosphere and overall feel of it.

So that's coming out Sept. 6, then Rage at the beginning of October, and Skyrim on Nov. 11.  I think my late summer through early winter gaming is booked solid now

Ordered Fallout:  New Vegas.  I guess they finally issued a mega-patch to fix the innumerable bugs and glitches in the game.  I really enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas looked great too, but I wasn't going to spend $60 on some half-finished piece of broken junk.  And as luck would have it, by the time they finally fixed it, the price has gone down to $14   :bouncegiggle:

If I ever get done with Nier, that'll be next on the gaming agenda.
