Title: Steven Tyler Quits Aerosmith

I'm this would cause a monster uproar amongst their fans. I'm not the biggest Aerosmith fan in the world, but it'd be weird after so many years and it'd be one hell of a hard act to follow for whoever took over the mic.

Tyler has actually quit the band.  :buggedout:

I like Aerosmith, but I don't 'love' Aerosmith.  I think (not certain) that they had a period of time where three of the guys weren't even in the group, and it was just Tyler and the drummer.  Then they went to rehab and got better, having a good string of success in the late '80s.

Ultimately though, like them or not, that's quite a pair of shoes to fill.  It'll be hard to do.

Aerosmith are in my top 5 all time favs.  I don't see anyone else but Tyler fronting the band.

I can't think of many people who could put the same energy and level of performance in that Tyler does, but vocally, I think Eric Martin or Tommy Paris would suit the band well.

I agree. For me, Tyler is pretty much synonymous with Aerosmith.

That's shocking.

That's a tough act to follow.

Maybe now my Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will be worth something.
I've got the cool red guitar with the Aerosmith logo that came with it.

Might have to pop it in the Xbox and play it now.

Rock stars can be such ladys sometimes.

Seriously, whats the point now?  They should stay together, keep touring and cash in on their years of writing.   They're all like 10 years younger than my dad so do they honestly think they can do something new and interesting now?

They had some really good stuff back in the '70s, but by the late '80s they were just an MTV act.  In my opinion.  I always have to chuckle at a guy 61 years old singing about teenage girls.

I have a lot more respect for the old bands that keep touring because the kids are all grown up, they're not tied down with obligations and it's what they like to do. Queen, for example. Really, middle age and older is the best time for touring because you can do it without neglecting other things.

That said Aerosmith is carrying on like they're still in their prime, taking it too seriously, acting like they need to be busting their butts on the road all the time. I say good for Steve Tyler. He doesn't need the money, and if touring with the band isn't fun for him, then screw it. Retire. Pursue something that gives more pleasure. He's earned it.

Oh man, I hate 80s Aerosmith barring "Done With Mirrors". I much prefer their 70s output, when it was all real dirty, bluesy bar rock n' roll.

Just as long as they don't bring Sammy Hagar on board.

As a side note, my wife's friend is the house cleaner for one of the band members (not sure which one).  She told my wife he's a really nice guy.

This totally is gonna be like, a 'crime' to say, but I kinda prefer the '80s/early '90s Aerosmith.  Then again, it's the Aerosmith I grew up with (born in '84.)  But, then again, it got me to buy the stuff they did in the '70s.  And while I like that style of music (barsy/bluesy type), I prefer the 'poppier' Aerosmith.

When I want that bluesier/bar style of 'drinking music' type, I prefer bands like The Doors or The Rolling Stones.  Eh.

No argument here. I like Aerosmith all the way through, from the 70s to the 90s. The songs are different, but they're still fun and catchy, and I have to say the later songs were more complex in their composition. It's apples and oranges. Both early and later Aerosmith tunes are good for different reasons. For me, Aerosmith's greatest strength has been their ability to evolve musically over the years, and stay relevant. While on the one hand, I like AC/DC because they never change, and I always know what I'm getting, I like Aerosmith because they're a classic band that kept up with the times, and they give me a good variety of music. But there's only so far you can go with that. The Rolling Stones were the same way, constantly reinventing themselves, until time caught up with them and they became known as a bunch of old farts who didn't know when to call it quits. Aerosmith is rapidly reaching that point, if they haven't already passed it.
