Title: Spartacus Blood And Sand
Post by: Mr. DS on February 16, 2010, 08:51:17 PM
I just started watching this show on Netflix.  Its gritty, violent and I love it.  Its like Rome meets 300.  Anyone else watching?

As a piece of history, it's largely crap.

But VERY entertaining!  I wish they would put another episode on the 101, since I'm too cheap to spring for STARZ.

Been meaning to.

I tell ya, it's funny, I hadn't really heard about that show until I read this article on USA Today about "Cable pushing the envelope of what goes on TV!!"  And it highlighted this show as the new wave of shows on late night that really skating the edge in terms of violence and sexual explicitness.  And then it mentioned that Lucy Lawless was in it, and I'm like, "Oh, hell ya, I gotta catch that!"

Granted, it would have been cooler if she'd done this about a decade ago, but still...

From what I saw of it, it was pretty terrible.  Entertaining though, but man..  Just, bad.  It's also one of the biggest ripoffs ever.  But I can totally understand why you guys would enjoy it.

Hey, she still looks good.

The show is nothing but complete cheesy fun.  I'm enjoying it.

:teddyr:  Me too.  I watched the first episode on 101 and debated getting STARZ just for it but my husband looked at me like I was crazy. so, no go.  :bluesad:

I just watched the last episode "Shadow Games".  For the first time in a long time I cheered at the end of watching something!

I watched the fist two episodes, them forgot it existed. Raimi and Tapert should stick to camp, this series is just overdirected crap. Some of the directorial choices where so stupid I found myself laughing.

Apparently, the show has been popular enough, there'll be a season 2.

I saw some of this last night.  It is like a Fangoria magazine crossed with an issue of Playboy with some really bad acting mixed in between.  I loved it!

This week's ending was sadenning to say the least.  I love the twists and turns...it seems no one is to be trusted.

Yep, the episode "Delicate Things" has a nice long shot of them.

Season ONe came out on video last week, and I'm on the third DVD - just finished the episode entitled "Whore".  Wow, I am conflicted here . . .

On the one hand, I will admit the story has completely sucked me in.  I can't wait to see the great slave rebellion get underway!

On the other - is that much nudity REALLY necessary?  I mean, I'm no prude, but this thing should be subtitled BLOOD AND BOOBS!  And I must admit; I have seen enough gladiator weenie to last me a lifetime!

But the story gets better with every episode . . .

I'll confess: I ended up watching the entire season, an enjoying most of the episodes. A lot.

At first I was taken back by the visuals and its exploitative tone, but once John Hannah's character becomes a regular I was hooked. Couldn't get enough of his schemes.

And the boobage ammount certainly didn't hurt.

This show, as already mentioned by myself repeadedly above, is simply awesome.  As Neville said the visuals were kind of odd to intake at first but they really scale back a bit in later episodes.  Of course this is in lieu of awesome plot twists.  Every episode held something shocking.

Side note, they're working on a prequel to the Episode 1 story because the actor who played Spartacus had health issues.  I can't wait.

I finished Season One last night.  For those who haven't seen it yet, all I can say is . . . it's entitled KILL THEM ALL!

It was by far an awesome ending, probably the best finale to a season ever

On a side note, I can't even think of the word "Spartacus" without that s**tty Menudo song from the old Nickelodeon cartoon going through my head.
