Title: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? Post by: diamondwaspvenom on March 07, 2011, 06:56:40 PM It'll happen at least once in our lifetime when we hear music that is so bleak in atmosphere, so depressing that it makes you doubt your life or so frightening that just hearing the first few notes makes you uneasy.
I've crossed paths with music like this many times. If I had to pick a song that invokes depressing feelings and distressing images in my mind, it would have to be Moevot's "Ehepr Abzvoryaerv" (aka Chante D'Eternite II). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SbhD-BCKCQ&feature=channel_video_title When I first heard this song, I felt as if I had just fallen into the depths hell, and the gates shut before me as I tried to escape. As the vocals start to echo, I pictured in my mind myself calling out to others in vain hope of seeking help. When the song ends, I couldn't help but feel like I was trapped forever in this gloomy darkness. I know that this is all sounds silly and overly melodramatic (it really is when looking back), but these are the visions and feelings that the song invoked in my mind. Did you ever listen to something that affected you similarily? Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHVqzS0C9uQ michael's scream near the end is the sound of ultimate despair. also, mick harris's lull project is a fine example of pitch black ambient/isolationist dronescapes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w11UJMFtUts Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? Nothing compares... Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? Post by: Mofo Rising on March 09, 2011, 02:59:39 AM J.G. Thirlwell is probably my favorite crazy musician. He was doing genre-busting "industrial" music way before it became an actual genre. Right now, he's probably best known for being the scorer for "The Venture Bros."
Anyway, this little number called "English Faggot" is probably one of the most legitimately homicidal pieces of music I have ever heard. The slow build of anger sounds like he is one step away from chopping up a family with an ax. It's dark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnE4YStWbCA By the way, this isn't an example of homophobia (although it uses that); just more of an example of pure raw hatred. Compare it to this track by Dog Fashion Disco: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRCQv_hKRag Seems almost tame in comparison. Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? (Think about this. Read the subtitles) and the guy with the glass, well... its the 'darkest', 'creepy' you can get! Note to self. *I need more sleep* Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? Post by: SpringZhang on March 30, 2011, 03:29:04 AM the days are long and filled with pain.
each time I listen to it, I kind of think life meaningless. Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? Post by: Doggett on March 30, 2011, 04:57:15 PM Well, Sister Grace sent me a song about killing and raping a Boston girl. :bluesad:

Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard? Post by: Flick James on March 31, 2011, 09:29:20 AM Hmmm. Well, there's thematic darkness and then there's just that feels dark.
I've always thought Type O-'s stuff feels very dark. Then there are songs that have an inexplicable dark feel to them that you wouldn't expect. There is a song by Elvis Costello called I Want You. It's very disturbingly obssessive and I feel very uncomfortable listening to it. I'm a big EC fan but I have difficulty listening to this song and usually skip forward. Laying here, looking at the ceiling, Someone lays a sheet across my chest. Something warm is flowing down my fingers Pain is flowing all through my back. I try to move my arm and there's no feeling And when I look, I see there's nothing there. The face beside me stopped bleeding The girl I knew has such a distant stare. etc. Our local Dairy Queen knock-off had this on their jukebox for years. We used to listen to this while munching hamburgers and slurping chocolate shakes. Good times! Title: Re: What is the darkest music you've ever heard?
