Title: Stand-up Comedy Post by: Vik on July 31, 2011, 06:11:55 PM What standup comics are you a fan of? I adore Bill Hicks and George Carlin, but those are pretty much the only ones I know.

I recommend it if you're into him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIaTFag26vc He really died to young :bluesad: Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: Nightowl on July 31, 2011, 07:37:33 PM Jeff Foxworthy
George Carlin Patton Oswalt Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: HappyGilmore on July 31, 2011, 10:12:46 PM I love:
Lewis Black http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXS5GBuk-GQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8VoIP9ZM8U&feature=related Jim Norton. Although, in this bit he's very clean, and he's usually NOT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-85nBlJQte4&feature=related Mitch Hedberg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7auvTMm47uM Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: indianasmith on July 31, 2011, 11:55:32 PM Bill Cosby for old school family humor . . .
and Stephen Wright when I just want to laugh till I lose bladder control. Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: Hammock Rider on August 01, 2011, 11:01:56 AM Those are all good, although I've never seen Mitch Hedberg before.
Let's not forget this guy: NSFW!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BgxtGBRo_Q Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: zombie no.one on August 01, 2011, 11:06:24 AM good call on Steven Wright, forgot about him. hilarious one liners, I actually find them funnier written down than hearing him saying them though, for some reason
everything else just pales in comparison to bill hicks for me... Have you seen the documentary on him? I recommend it if you're into him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIaTFag26vc He really died to young :bluesad: No, although I've seen the documentary 'Enjoy The Ride' and read Cynthia True's biography...I'll have to check that one as well! the youtube user BillHicksArchive has loads of unreleased and rare standup stuff, plus his unreleased bad movie 'Ninja Bachelor Party' Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: Psycho Circus on August 01, 2011, 03:24:31 PM I'm a big Bill Hick's lover. To me he was more a philosopher than a comedian, could command a crowd without even having to say anything. He'd have people hanging on his every word and yes, he died far too young indeed. I've pretty much eaten up everything that's been put out there, be it cds, books, dvds....you name it.
Other comedians I'm a fan of include: George Carlin Richard Pryor (can't believe he hasn't been mentioned yet!) Chris Morris Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge material only) Lewis Black There's a few others but their names escape me right now. Oh, and I really dislike Dennis Leary, Billy Connolly and Lenny Henry. Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: The Burgomaster on August 01, 2011, 03:50:41 PM * GEORGE CARLIN
* RODNEY DANGERFIELD * WOODY ALLEN (way back when he actually did stand-up comedy) * JERRY SEINFELD * BILL COSBY * DON RICKLES * JACKIE MASON I've seen Carlin (twice), Seinfeld (twice), and Cosby live and all were hilarious. I also saw Larry the Cable Guy a couple years ago and he was very funny. I saw Wayne Brady in Las Vegas. He was pretty funny, but the last half hour of his show was just him signing (not funny songs . . . regular songs). That sort of killed the show. I have a shirt from a George Carlin concert that says, "Simon says go f**k yourself." Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: HappyGilmore on August 01, 2011, 11:44:42 PM Gilbert Gottfried
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JHeLEZQcKs Gilbert did a show here in Philly not too long ago. Saw him in a club with about 200 people. Hilarious live, and met him afterwards and got an autograph. Louis C.K. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u2ZsoYWwJA Christopher Titus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkg2AfvE68w Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: zombie no.one on August 03, 2011, 11:15:08 AM Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge material only) agreed! I was lucky enough to see him in Bristol a couple of yrs back on the last tour. It's the most I've ever laughed. I almost fell out of my chair laughing, I didn't even think that was possible! and the tour got some pretty bad reviews as well, I thought it was great though. Alan Partridge came out singing R Kelly 'I Believe I Can Fly' :smile:Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: WingedSerpent on August 04, 2011, 04:32:31 PM Two of my favorites that nobody mentioned yet are Eddie Izzard and Brian Regan (Saw him live twice)
Mitch Hedberg Steven Wright Lewis Black Patton Oswalt Gilbert Godfried (Saw him live one and it was hilarious) Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: HappyGilmore on August 05, 2011, 08:55:43 AM Howie Mandel is really funny. This one he's doing his Bobby character.

Used to be a fan back when he was at his peak. He's not in my top ten, but I like him. I thought it was unfair that he happened to come along just before that big wave of political correctness in the early 90s. He became a lightning rod. And people had a tendency to confuse him with his stage persona, and they didn't quite get what he was doing or what he was making fun of. Andrew Dice Clay was a better comedian than people give him credit for. I used to own his double album, The Day the Laughter Died. That was a live performance in a small comedy club, that received no advance publicity, so he had a more diverse audience who were not expecting to see him. As I understand it, Dice had not planned out his performance ahead of time, and just went out and winged it. Some of the material fell flat, but overall the result was pretty amazing, with some great audience reaction and interaction. I especially liked the part where he demonstrated that comedy is as much in the delivery as in the material, by doing a whole segment that was complete nonsense, but in a way that suggested it should be funny. People were confused at first, but he pressed on with the experiment, and they started to laugh. Then somebody says "I don't get this." To which he replied "You think I do?" (NSFW) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDPoPSVMmO0 As for my favourite comedy acts: Bill Cosby George Carlin (earlier, before the bitter ranting) MacLean and MacLean Don Harron (more of an actor than a comedian, but his monologues as Charlie Farquharson cracked me up as a kid) More current: Jeremy Hotz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcPzRDlLO5c&feature=related Russell Peters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqn9rXu1TCM&feature=related Title: Re: Stand-up Comedy Post by: HappyGilmore on August 06, 2011, 08:14:32 PM The Amazing Jonathan

I was too young to hear his stuff in the '80s, but when I was around 13 or 14 back in '98 I found a collection of his old albums. I remember him doing a family sitcom that was decent too. |
