I'd love to see them.

Likely won't happen though. Shame.

Love Van Halen.

I love VAN HALEN and had at least one of their albums on vinyl... (1984 I think...)  I even liked them with whozit?  SAMMY HAGAR?   :drink:

I'd definitely go see 'em, but my 1 of 2 Rock friends now lives in Nevada and the other ain't got a pot to p**s in.  Don't think I'll get to see 'em in any case.  :bluesad:

Glad to see DLR and the boys back, especially recording a new record. I'm not expecting an amazing album, but I'm sure it'll be good. I'm just disappointed at the moment to see only US dates announced for the tour.

agreed.  I think the album comes out soon. judging by the single it will be good

Eddie Van Halen's son is the new bassist so the band ages are something like 56, 57, 59, and 20!

Hope it's more hard rock now that Dave's back.  I never could get into that pop rock stuff with Sammy.

Dave looks like Captain Archer from Star Trek Enterprise   :teddyr:

I like most of the 'van hagar' stuff but I agree some of the ballads were too slushy

Mike left because of all the b***hing that started between the other guys and Sammy, because he's best buds with Hagar and they can basically do what they want musically now in Chickenfoot.

technically I should like Chickenfoot (considering the line up) but the stuff that I've heard doesn't do much for me tbh

Never liked the Hagar era, I always much preferred the DLR era, even though I think he is a bit of a douchebag.  I don't even think he is a very good singer, but whatever the original lineup did, it worked and worked very well.

I'll be the odd man out so far and say I'm not really too fussed on the return. To me, the original lineup is like a good looking corpse. It should remain dead and be remembered for what it was.

yeah he's definitely more of a 'front man' than a 'singer' if that makes any sense. I've got bootlegs of VH shows where he only sings a few words per verse, more interested in dancing than singing. but he fits with the band overall

however for being "not really too fussed" on the return of VH I'm afraid I must negative karma you.

(only joking  :teddyr:)

Why joking? I love attention. Good attention, bad attention. It's all attention.

Wonderful! I'm a long time Van Halen fan and I definitely prefer the DLR days....that to me was the best of them. Although I did like "Humans Being"....that was a good song.

Meh.

Advance sale tickets for their Boston show went on sale to American Express cardholders last week.  I almost bought tickets, but decided against it.  I've been to several retro concerts in the past few years (Def Leppard, STYX, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar).  They were decent, but they made me remember when these bands were in their "top of the charts" years and how they are only shadows of what they once were.

At this point I hardly care about these bands who were once in the limelight who come back just to rehash and cash in on the same junk and make zero effort to write creative or interesting material.  They may still be talented musicians but they don't use that talent in any useful way.

I kind of agree and do think that is mostly for the purposes of money, but as far as Van Halen are concerned I'm happy. They don't really have to go out of their way to be creative and write the world's best album, because people just want to hear more of their music and see the line-up they grew up rockin' out to. Plus, if a band wants to play together and they are enjoying it, all the best to 'em.

I was in an awfully cynical mood the other day, and while my sentiments still stand for the most part, I can't disagree that it's nice to see musicians getting together and having a good time.  Sometimes more of the same is good.  I'm sure that if some of the groups I like who've have had their run got back together I'd be pretty excited, but man, that Tattoo song is kinda lame.   :teddyr:  I'm sure they'll mostly play older material in concert, though.
