Whittier, California.

Richard Nixon's Alma Mater is Whittier College.

Lou Hoover, wife of Herbert Hoover, is from Whittier.

Gabriel Iglesias, stand-up comic, is from Whittier.

Other things of note. The High School in Back to the Future is Whittier High School. Masters of the Universe was filmed in Whittier. Quite a few movies have used parts of Whittier for filming locations because of the it's quaint appearance and resemblence to many middle-American towns.

Winona, Minnesota

Winona Ryder is named after the town, though she was actually born in the next county over.

There was a guy named Max Conrad who "was a record-setting aviator. In the 1950s and 1960s, he set nine official light plane world records, three of which still stand at the end of 2008."  According to Wikipedia.  Our airport is named after him.

Another guy, Paul Giel, was runner up for the Heisman Trophy in 1953 and inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1975.  We've got a ball park named after him.

Other item of note:  if you've seen any sheet music or instructional books by Hal Leonard Publishing, that's located here.

Lots. By far the most famous is Muhammad Ali. But I prefer to focus on this rising star:

I have the feeling that I've answered this question 'round here before, but what the hell... I grew up in Paramus, New Jersey. Our most famous export was the hair-metal band Trixter, who had a minor hit single called "Give It To Me Good" in 1990.

I graduated from high school in 1988 with Steve Brown (guitarist, all the way to the right in this pic), he was also in my homeroom. Nice guy, we used to chat about Def Leppard, Stryper, and Van Halen a lot. His father Charles (yes, really -- Charlie Brown!) was one of our school's vice principals. The rest of the guys in the band were a year or two older than us so I didn't know them.

Actress Stacey Dash of "Clueless" fame also went to my high school. She was a couple of years older than me so I only had contact with her in an art class during my freshman year. She was very snobby, had a "you are all beneath me" attitude and was generally unpleasant to be around. From what I can gather when I see her name turn up in gossip mags and celebrity-news sites, apparently not much has changed.

As for my current town of residence, West Milford, New Jersey... actor Tom Wopat of "Dukes of Hazzard" fame lives around here somewhere. I've yet to bump into him but he's a regular customer at the auto repair shop my brother in law works at.

Yankees captain Derek Jeter supposedly lived in West Milford for a brief time as a kid.

Billy Howardel, the guitarist of A Perfect Circle, is a West Milford native too.

Well in Lakeville we have Siamese twins joined at the hip. Pretty unusual but not spectacular.

We also had a botanist named Todd Bachman who was stabbed to death in China during the Beijing Olympics.

And John Kline; Whoever that is.

I wish we had some Siamese Twins.  :bluesad:

I was born in little Sylacauga, Alabama - home town of Jim Nabors aka Gomer Pyle. My dad went to school with him and they were buddies, working at the same drug store for a couple of years. His sister lived down the street from us, and one Halloween when we went Trick or Treating at her house Mr. Nabors answered the door, got a load of our scary costumes, and said "Well GOOOLLL-LEEE!". And then he gave us some candy and told us he knew our daddy.

We moved away soon afterwards.

A very famous historical event took place in Sylacauga on November 30th, 1954 (http://frogstorm.com/?p=2899): a meteorite crashed through the roof of Ann Hodges' house and bounced off her hip, leaving a nasty bruise. It's the only known instance of a person getting hit by an object from Outer Space!

They later built a drive-in at the spot and named it 'The Comet Drive In' to commemorate the event. My aunt took my cousin and me in her little red convertable to see BLOOD FREAK there - boy, did we get in trouble!
